Terry- good to see you're in the Polo game again, castor is down to personal preferance, on my car I run as much as possible within tyre/front arch confines. Toe on Polos is usually 0 (i.e parallel) but on some track applications toe out can be normal.

Best thing to do is measure the wheelbase side to side, adjust so wheelbase is even (therefore castor angle- presuming the rear axle is straight) and have a play with it, enjoy the adjustment!

Crank timing, was out a fair way, probably 5' on the crank pulley (2.5' cam) but the dowels on stock pullies aren't good, you've probably got that much play in one when you refit it anyway! I've also got a 3f pulley and timing marker, the markers have some play in them too when bolting up.

Cheers

Pete

I also will be coming down for a set up .. Custom Map,
But vernier , big throttle ...possibly BVH ..

Terry- Club Polo are organising a trackday at Blyton the start of August, will be quite a few G40s out on track  ;D

Cheers Alex, just the paint letting it down, but I'm thinking I'll let it get some gravel rash first, then think about some paint.

Final pieces of the jigsaw have now arrived:

Hoping to have it running at BVF, but might not have CV joints in time  :D

Havn't updated this in a while...  :D

Car made 216bhp at the Polo Show, but I don't trust their dyno, Andy's car made 175bhp (hiw was 200bhp+ at Aldon).

Quite a while since an update, but currently working out how to fit my new wheels in the arches:

13" Compo CXR-2, which fit over the brakes with no spacers  :P

Also got another set, couple of sets of slicks (cut, drag and a few circuit) and some wets:

Oulton Park in 4 weeks :D

Hopefully I've fixed the wheel clearance issure, whilst keeping it looking stock  :)

Standard arch:

Fettled arch:

That's a few hours with a hot air gun and a length of steel to roll the plastic arch out, also did this to the bumper mount:

So that meets the 'stock' arch nicely again, still abit more to do.

All for now

Looks good Yoof. Do you have a pic of the whole car with the new wheels and arches? And where did you get the wilwoods, are they a direct fit?

I've tried to contact PPP, i was in a dialog with Peter about a subframe for my G40, but i havnt heard back since 14th september :E Could you check this out for me?

That's me  :) I've either been at work or down the unit recentley, I'll catch up with PPP mails this afternoon- subframes due next w/e btw.

I'll try to get a pic of the whole thing once it's done.

Wilwoods aren't a direct fit, the carriers require modification which isn't a massive issue providing you've got a steady hand and a hacksaw/file. Only pain is you ruin the finish on the carrier, so ideally need to get them replated. I got them from Rally Design (Mk1 Golf kit) with pads, and use Golf 256mm 16v Brembo discs (GSF/ECP etc).

Are your front trims off a coupe s or modified g40/gt ones? I'm having trouble keeping em stuck down with tiger seal. Left em on clamped for 48 hours and they have still slightly peeled . Mine are the coupe s ones

Tigerseal seemed to do the job for me  :) Just make sure everything is really clean, and you rough the back of the arch up.

How the Polo is currently sitting, awaiting new panels:

Front end is done now, just need to wait for the boot to arrive, and order rear windows.

I assume your colour coding them arch extensions? Also did you choose not to go back to the orginal wings and trims because of the amount of effort it took to fit them wheels under?

Might just go gloss black on the extensions, I'd want to colour code the bumpers if I did the arches.

The wheels would have been okay on the road, but scrubbed hard on track. So the berg arches give me alot more flexability regarding ride height, wheel/tyre combo  :)

Wings are now GRP as they're lighter, and I'd damaged the drivers side one in a 'racing incident' with Andy in his Saab 9000 a few years back!

Does that NACA duct on the wing go anywhere Yoof?
