Are you going to Bristol volks fest ?  Have you changed your master cylinder after fitting the midilites?

Yoof

Master cylinder is a 22mm aluminium one from a G60, stock new rear cylinders, gives a good pedal feel and you can modulate them well.

You just know something is going there when the bootlid is held up with one strut...

poloycarb rear window yes?

Jezza- will be at BVF, although car won't be on these wheels as they've got slicks on! I can bring one with me to GTi Festival, or pop into mine on the way back?

I reckon so.

Ok mate thats great. I might just buy them anyway and see what wheels fit. You going to the one on 22nd april? If so i will see you there. Gonna run mine up there this year.

Yoof

Yeah should be.

Aerocatches fitted on the boot now:

Yoof

One rear arch complete this evening.

Used rubber rivnuts which have a good clamp force against the thin panel and should stop vibrations of the arch transferring to the body. All bolts are M4 (various length) domed cap heads.

Most of this bent arch will be cut off, and both skins re-welded together:

Need to fettle the side skirt to fit now, and do the rear passenger side, then it's off to paint!

Why not use the disks at the rear?
Congratulations your G is wonderful

Yoof

Because drums are lighter and I need as little rear braking as possible  :)

djtez

good enough reasons for me :)

Yoof

Final arch now fitted:

Much easier when it's not bent...  :D

New wheels also on their way, should fill the arches nicely. Paint shop next week (gives me chance to rebuild the box, and get everything ready for stuffing up)

randombadger69

Yeah boi! Good as new ;D

Like the use of rivnuts, seems a much nicer way of doing it!

Yoof

Aye rubber rivnuts are the tits, added bonus that nothing rattles with them, my carbon fibre doorcards are held in with them too.

Car is now ready for the bodyshop- will be going to Eastcote Customs, who did Alex's GT/G40 and Andy's Squareback. They're local to my work, and I'm impressed with both Alex's and Andy's cars so far. Having said that, the repair isn't going to win any concours competitions, but I'd like it to look decent.

Windows have all been removed (bar windscreen) for measurements to be made so a set of polycarbonate ones can be made. I've ditched the winder mech on both windows, and am using the runner so you can slide the window up by hand on both sides, then lock it at the top with a pin. This is because I can't open my windows due to the door bars, and I didn't want to fit electric ones.

Rear window was a pita but all out now:

I intend to take the car to a few shows this year, so needed to find some road wheels. Had several in mind (including a set of HTNs) but decided on these:

Couldn't complain at the price, 7x15 ET35 so are having 20mm spacers all round (rear will be ET5 and front ET15) should fill the arches nicely.

Hopefully the next update will be of some repairs!

djtez

Great update Yoof !

Love the road wheels choice, keeping them silver i hope they look top notch!

I was thinking about your front window idea, i take it your keeping the front quarter window ?
having poly windows and still being able to slide up and down without winders sounds nice!!

Are you buying polycarb sheets and cutting it to size yourself ?
This would be the cheapest option for us all if we had time effort to take out windows and size up

I miss my old/your old compos, glad you've gone back to em they are awesome! 15s are so much easier to find!
