Yoof's Turbo
« on: December 30, 2008, 11:18:54 pm »
This should really have a home here (more relevant than Club Polo)

My car started as a 1991 Polo GT, seen here:

Didn't start life like that, was probably after 2 years or so, used to run a 90bhp 3f engine and 80bhp of nitrous  ;D

Then, once that got boring a new challenge was set (throttle bodies on a budget- was still 18/19 then!)

Hence:

Once myself & Andy had done the megasquirt it ran well, needed more tweaking but I went turbo instead:

Car before running a low 13sec @ Santa pod:

Note the Subframe peeking through- proper research & development being done!!!!

Polo Show in Sept '08

Made 203bhp & 187lbft without nitrous at 21psi boost- G40 RR Day @ Aldon Automotive

Made 223bhp & 210lbft with nitrous  ;D

Car at Oulton Park late November (more subframe testing):

Which brings me almost up to present, plans are for a refresh/revision on some suspension areas, mainly spring rates, rear ARB rates, rollcage, front dampers, proper adjustable top mounts.

Engine side of things need a new turbo and decent dump valve (going Tial as fed up of blowing Bosch ones apart) then I'm good to go!

2009 Plans are more trackdays, and to run into the 12s at Santa Pod  :-[

Yes- with a few additional components  ;)

Just taken it out and I've come back shaking, last time I drove it was Novemeber 2008. Gets to 140mph quicker than my diesel gets to 70mph... ;D

Few bits to sort out before santa pod still.

I'll get some pics up later.

Hoping to be there for GTi Festival, still got to swap my rear springs, TIG some bits onto boost pipes, get rid of this old fuel (should be fun  ;D ) and sort the nitrous and general tune of the car out.

I run a gripper plate diff  ;)

Put some fresh rubber on the compos (hard to get hold of now A539  :( )

Lambda probe is on its way out, I've found a boost leak though, had all the inlet etc off today, had a good freshen up and re ran the whole vacuum system now in gucci pipe  8)

Some pictures from this afternoon, replaced the old tired rad with a new ally one  8)

Getting there, still got to finish it tomorrow, plus set the nitrous up, and take the rear suspension apart...  :D

Sweet update Pete.

Taken a day off today to make a fan bracket for the slim-line.

Tempted by the invitation class of the VAG Trophy?

Hmm, would want to see how it works tbh. I've not got a cage and last thing I want is some 'haveago hero' in his 8v GTi running out of talent and running into me.

I am interested in it though, especially if it's free. 1/4mile and trackdays mostly this year for me, possibly a trip over to a certain toll road.

Car is now back together, boost turned down to 20psi (nitrous setting) just got to stick the bottle in, and change my rear springs. Then get pissed with Hayesey  ;D
