Diffuser to arrive? I like the sound of that!

Etches

Making me think of the bonkers defuser on that copper mk1 polo g40 turbo. Well looking forward to this

Yoof

It's along the same lines, but should intergrate into the bumper alot more cleanly.

Am currently working on a few steering mods which should make it alot better!

dub-disaster

Can't wait too see this car done it's going to be an animal !!

Yoof

Not far off bolting stuff back on now, floorpan:

Rebuilt rear axle:

Built up with wheel studs:

All suspension/steering components have been stripped down and POR-15'd:

Now Andy & myself have fully adjustable suspension, it seemed stupid to continue to pay through the nose for tracking places, so I've bought these:

4-Wheel alignment, will do Toe, Camber, Castor, KPI and Wheel Runout, should be worth its weight in gold whilst setting mine up, I'm keen to get the rear axle spot on too.

lance

lookin good mate. anychance you'll share all your set up measurements once you're finished? ;)

Yoof

Aye for sure, although not sure everyone will be able to achieve them, I've got adjustable bottom arms, stage 3 frame, and adjustable top mounts, so a fair amount of wood to get lost amongst the trees in  ;D

Also I'll be running cut slicks with camber to suit the track too- not sure you'd want this on the road!

xandyx

i want to clean/paint underneath my car to avoid rust. what kind of paint and brand of paint did you use?

thanks
andré

Yoof

Andre- all rust was cleaned first, then I used Vactan, then primer, then POR-15 or underseal. The front wings are Por-15 metal ready, then Por-15 black.

Flat floor welded in  :)

Yoof

Spent this afternoon mocking up the diffuser- fuel tank and rear axle installed (but will need to remove them again for the final bit of welding).

Diffuser needs to be higher at the rear, which is tomorrow's job hopefully- then I can cut my proper bumper and make a neat job of everything.

Will need a new exhaust as the old backbox doesn't fit.

Excuse the iPhone pics:

Point of view from air underneath the car:

Side profile (rear needs to be raised):

DTM Polo:

Doesn't stick out that much:

Currently there's about 1" between the diffuser and rear axle- Ideally this gap is as small as possible:

Will be making a Mk2 diffuser from ally at some point anyway, so not going to worry too much right now.

polo classic

Where did you get the diffuser`?

Yoof

Polo PP  :) - Chap who makes the subframes knocked it up for me. Was made on a squareback so I've done some mods today to get it sitting higher.

This is Mk1 made from steel (about 4kg) but I'd like one from ally next.

Yoof

Finished tewaking the diffuser, now sits alot higher and fits nicely into the bumper (still got mock up bumper on in these pics):

Rear is vactanned and stone chipped now:

And the boot floor is primered ready for paint:
