Another T registered G40.
T***JHB first registered 1 March 1999, blue, original condition with 53k recorded miles. Have owned this car from new. I was told that 3 G40`s had been reimported by a local garage from Malaysia where they had been stored in a container since 1993/4.
Engine number PY018495, can anyone give any idea of year of manufacture?
Car is currently on SORN and has not been used since 2006.Car is in South Wales.

Welcome to the forum :)

Another of the late registered G40's turns up, pics please 8)
Stuart (stug4T) on here has a Montana Green T-reg, based in the Southampton area last i heard. Yours will probably be Windsor blue being a late one. That engine number looks very late in production. All my G40 engines had numbers in the region between PY5000 and PY8000 and were built in 1991. iirc there were only approx 25,000 PY units made or so says ETKA. Your chassis number will give alot more info about build date.

I seem the recall that the other of these 3 late registered G40's made it onto an S-reg, but haven't heard anything of it?

Pictures attached. The car is in need of some tlc as it has been stored for a while. Badges were relegated to the glovebox to deter the light fingered who targeted hot hatches.

Nice Windsor Blue example :)

You still got the KmH metric clocks fitted, presumably the export specification.

There is a small gearbox in the speedo cable.
There are a couple of other anomolies, no cigarette lighter or ashtray (not a problem as I do not smoke) and strangely the passenger seat height/rake is adjustable whilst the drivers is not, even though the car is built as RHD? May have been built for export to countries who drive on right, ?far east. I do not think they were converted from LHD.

Oh thats awesome. I never thought we'd see the other T reg as it had not surfaced before. I seem to remember someone (probably Stu) mentioning that the third one was an S reg. Would be ace if he turned up too. Still looks really weird having a T reg G. Looks in good nick though. Welcome to the forum.

That gearbox on the speedo cable confued the hell out of me when I just fitted some MPH clocks.
Didn't realise it had the reducer gear for a while!
Mine also had no cigarette lighter  and the height adjustable passenger seat, very odd.

Really good to see another T-reg, when mine is back on the road we'll have to get them together.
Also sorn since 2006  ;D

a quick look on http://www.freecarcheck.org/ revealed the following
Quote
g40kck only has limited deitals but i suspect this is due 2 the plate change!
Volkswagen, Polo G40, 1991, Red, Petrol, 1272, 10/06/1991

Quote
g4olp comes back as a ka but its old reg comes back fine as a g40!
correct, ford KA. anyone know the original reg plate of the car it was on?
edit: reg plate was K877 WND, have updated registry for next time:
Volkswagen, Polo G40, 1992, Black, Petrol, 1272, 15/10/1992

Quote
h866mpr doesnt say its a g40 just a polo coup, but its engine code is right for a g40 (py) but it lists it being a 1341cc???
must have had engine size on logbook changed
Volkswagen, Polo G40, 1991, Black, Petrol, 1341, 17/06/1991

Quote
h612fkr has no detials??
Volkswagen, Polo G40, 1991, Black, Petrol, 1272, 27/06/1991
Quote
j393nbd comes back as being blue not green
Volkswagen, Polo G40, 1992, Blue, Petrol, 1272, 01/03/1992
Quote
j452gnl comes back as a sarb???
so it does
Quote
k275fch doesnt show any results?
how wierd... scrapped maybe? who knows!
Manufacturer: Volkswagen
Model: Polo G40
Year: Not available
Colour: Not available
Fuel Type: Not available
Engine Size (CC): Not available
Registration Date: Not available

Mine is a original G40 as i got photocopys of all the first documents and although it does only say Polo Coupe on the first registration it also shows the engine code as PY.

For years because of its history i always wondered if it was original G40 or Gt or what so went to the effort of getting first registration documents.

Cheers

Rob
