T3 to big?
« on: January 16, 2011, 06:34:18 pm »
Ive got a Garret TB036 (very similar to a tb0356) with my turbo project.

.42 A/R compressor housing, and .48 A/R exhaust housing.

I will be using it on a standard PY engine.. Im guessing I need a nice revy cam.. how high could you safely rev a PY, to chase that boost? and can anyone recomend a cam.

Or are we talking ridiculas lag? Would I better selling it on and buying a smaller T2/T25 turbo? Not something i really want to do but if needs must...

Cheers

Most T3 are way to big. The last person I heard fitted a T3 to a G40, had lag issues. Had to spool up the turbo again every time he changed gears. Might work with a 1,4/1,5L conversion and a very good flowing head

Use NOS while you're spooling!

People have used T25 from Nissan 200SX and Saab 9000s in the past with decent enough results - Polo GT cam works well with them. I used a K03 and went for a lairier cam to move the power band where I wanted it.

This turbo is from a Saab 9000 and its rather small for a T3?

Was about to throw in the towel on the T3 but I need to do some more research

Cheers for the reply guys
