headgasket overhaul
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:48:39 pm »
My car just the other day encountered a problem (head gasket)
i knew all the sypthoms and proceeded yesterday to strip the head off..

i took out the cam first which had marking on the dizzy end (bp 27 ohy g40) and few other figures..
not all clear but i will try take a foto. is this a Standard cam?!!

i am very interested and concerned about the gasket replacment..
wat gasket should i buy.. i didn't think high compression was good for the g40?
im worried about skimmin the head? can i get a thicker gasket?
some one mentions on clubpolo about a metal gasket

I guess that "someone" would be me :)

I wouldn't worry in the slightest about skimming the head reducing compression ratio.  The g40 has the combustion chamber in the pistons with a pretty much flat head so skimming the head makes such a small difference to compression ratio you needn't worry about it, as I said on clubpolo.

The metal gasket is from a mk4 polo 8v engine and will raise compression if you want it to be higher.

it's the one from the MPI engines, 1.4, 1.6.  Look for the one for AEX engine code on GSF website.
