I have just fitted a subframe and its catching when on full lock anyone had the same issues?

hayesey

what subframe and what is catching on what on full lock?  ???

hayesey

have you had the wheel alignment set since fitting it?

Andy

Also what size and offset wheels are you using?

scotsjohn

I'm running 6.5x14 with a 30 ET and a PPS subframe. I'm getting rubbing when almost on full lock with tracking spot on, but I can live with it. It's the rim itself thats rubbing which sounds really bad but it's not doing any serious damage.

hayesey

whats the castor set to?  I assume those PPS subframes allow you to adjust castor in the same way as the PPP ones do?

breadman

Yeah hayesey, castor adjustment is made in the same way on both frames.
I reckon it's down to the shallow ET30 offset wheels you're running John. This must bring them into contact with the tension struts when on full lock.

hayesey

or the fact the wheels are now further forward in the arches than before means the tyre touches the inner wing.

Yeah wheels will be further forward, but John said it was the wheel rim rubbing something not the tyre?

G4O LP

I'm running identical to John is there anyway of putting a stopper on the steering rack?

Yoof

If it's rubbing on the tension strut that's a design fault.

We've had a few cars rub on full lock- it's usually the brake hose bracket on the passenger side inner wing. Obviously this is only for the PPP ones, I can't comment on the PPS ones.

hayesey

hmm weird, so is it the compression strut that the wheel is rubbing on?  Still no one has said what is actually rubbing!

Like I mentioned, my tyre will rub the inner wing on full lock but that's because I have 15" wheels with 60mm lowering and increased castor angle.  I live with it, I just remember to not go on full lock, easy enough because it's not my daily driver though.

Yoof

Salzmann sell a steering rack block to reduce the maximum lock- I guess because like our MOT their TuV test stipulates nothing must foul on full lock.

The block is actually included in the Salzman kit

g-subs g40

hi i'm an old school but been away for about 5 years. still got my g40 but been in storage. bought an s3 since but now it's time to sort out my little girl. i'm 30 now but bought it when i was 19 from holland as a left hand drive and converted it. the body's getting abit tatty all over but my mother happens to have a really nice gt in dark red so it's getting stripped, caged etc. the engines well sorted with various mods up to 170 bhp but i want some form of sub frame for the front, a quick shift if poss or i'll just make one. and advise on getting better fixed top mounts like the golfs. welding not a problem. i've got a set of 280 mm g60 calipers and a set of 278 audi twin pot calipers too if anyone knows where to get the brackets from to fit them??
