VWI and VWII brake pads

Need a pair of pads for my G40.

VW part number is:

191-698-151 G for standard G40 and mk2 golf 8v.

191-698-151 for all other solid disc polo pads.

Is there a difference does anyone know?

EBC want about £20 difference for the G40, which if anything must have less material?

Is it just a case of flash boy tax?

So pulled up a thread on club polo.

G40 are 15mm thick.

Non G40 for solid discs are 17mm thick.

Any thoughts on losing 2mm off them on the lathe?

I now sound a real cheapskate! Haha.

I thought vw11 were two different shapes and vw1 were all the same.

Are you referring to the backing or the pad material?

The backing shape on the VWII Vented pads means that they will only fit one way round in relation to the carrier. I remember that much.

Is the pad area smaller on the solid disc pads to get higher pressure?

No idea tbh but g ones do only fit one way.

Right after some speaking with a local supplier they were able to shed some light on this.

VW part number is:

191-698-151 G for standard G40 and mk2 golf 8v.

EBC Number: DP2517 - 138x49x15mm

191-698-151 for all other solid disc polo pads.

EBC Number: DP2515 - 138x51x17mm

Interestingly the local supplier I used was able to supply the correct EBC DP2517 pads for a G40 for £35.50. EBC list these at £52.34. So cheaper to use a local supplier in this instance.

Rattle Pete, on uneven roads (pretty much all in south yorks) it rattles like a can or marbles. stops if you apply the brakes a little.

What would you reccomend for the £30-£40 Mark? General road use.

From previous experience EBC Greens create plenty of dust, which with the OE wheels is a bitch. Also found they needed to be used hard to maintain performance. If not used hard for a while found they lost their bite.

I went with Ferodo DS2500 but they are double your budget.
With your budjet I would just run standard pads, a well serviced brake system would have better benefits...

Also running Ferodo but they will eat your brake discs, they are that good.

Also I wouldn't vouch for greenstuff, dusty ol' beggers and not good for me as I don't like cleaning!

You will probably be ok taking a few mm off the pads (material side), but mask sure you have a mask on and in a well ventilated area as the dust isn't good for your health.

I've done it before my smashing the calipers on with a rubber mallet and just driving the car till the pads wore down against the disc. Was entertaining changing gear, as by the time you'd changed gear, you had slowed down that much that you needed to change gear again. All good after a few miles
