So time to get over my moping and start this up again. I have decided to keep the engine after plenty of changes of heart but i want to finish and the distant memory of how it drove also makes that decision a tad easier.
As usual any rebuild starts with a message to Mr Mirfin and a box load of febi parts later i am well on my way
I have managed to aquire a space in my mates garage as my engine building experience is non-existent and he is a professional engine builder, so first stage is to dismantle and clean:
and now to pop into the tank of gunk remover
It smelt sweet like almonds which scared me all the more.
But the final product was good, and everything was smelling clean when i finished
Then stripped the head, as i want it flow testing and a bit of porting.
Took the block to the local engineering spot who are decking it and looking at the tolerences of the bore, unfortunately the top rings of the pistons have worn the top of the bore so i need a rebore to sort that.
As there isnt much price difference between cast and forged pistons i will be going for 77 mm forged wossners, against the advice of my mates as he reckons 76 mm to allow for a rebore down the line, but i think i have aquired a set up to suit the slightly larger pistons so that is my preference at the moment. Wossner currently have a 3-4 week back order so its a time game at the moment.
Should be picking up a few new parts over the coming weeks but mainly just waiting on the pistons
