Evening all,

So after months of rebuilding, i have come to the fateful restart.

And........ strong spark. fuel is good. but. no. life.

Should I compression test and sort ignition timing out first?

ANY advice however wild will be considered. I am contemplating dropping it off at the local garage. desperate times

Thanks

Ah man! Sorry to hear after all the work :(

timing definitly right? Is there absoloutly nothing at all? Not even a little bit of life?

like you say. Id double double check timing
i suppose with the compression, if it was that low the engine would turn over much easier and you could hear it

Timing is crucial, no timing means u may be igniting the cylinders way late and not making enough pressure in them to sustain the rotation of the crank!

Double check the HT leads order. Its caught a few of us out before!

physicsfool

Update. I mentioned my rotor arm was facing 3pm. So I swapped the 1 ht lead to 3pm from 9pm.

And there are signs of life. Engine is just about catching. But requires me to have my foot on the accelerator pedal the whole time.

The cam shaft isn't rotating smoothly, v jerky. I tightened the end bolt to 65nm as per Haynes.

Any ideas folks?

Swap the other 2 leads. 1342 from 9 oclock anti clockwise

physicsfool

Yeah I swapped all 4. So 3 is at 12, 4@ 9pm and 2 @ 6 pm

physicsfool

Oh wow. I had 4 and 3 the wrong way around. What a twat I am.

Long story short she is runnnnning. £500 and 2 months later.

Now just waiting on the oil feed banjo and I can take her for a drive

Great shout Sam! We've all done it before haha

PeteG40

its complicated by the fact someone put the little pulley thing on his dizzy on 180 degrees off!

and banjo be in the post tomorrow mate!

I never understood why there wasn't a diagram of the dizzy in the haynes manual with the numbers on it, I ended up drawing on in there myself after getting the leads the wrong way round.

Ask Robin about the fun we had with his HT leads last year at Blyton. We (he) still got it wrong about 5/6 times even with a working car to copy from!
