having said that, that auction does look pretty legitimate.  Perhaps phone them up since they give a phone number and see what they say about what brand you'll get.

Right box is out of the car, at a quick look there is masses of play in the drive flange in and out as well as rotational play, cant see this being normal

when i turn the drive flange with it in gear its rather noisy, sounds like a stray bearing, but could be wrong, could just be normal

now im about to strip the gearbox down as per your brilliantly put together guide, but ive just realised you only replace the diff bearings. I cant find that haynes manual you speak off. Are the other bearings straight forward to change? Have you ever done them? I havnt ordered any bearings as of yet, want to get the box apart first
appreciate your help mate

Ah i found a copy of it on here, you photocopied it, i downloaded it as a pdf, seems to work :) the edges are a bit blury lol, but should do the trick. Thanks for putting that on the forum mate

If your going to start pulling gears off don't use a cheap gear puller get a very very good one and be super careful.

I broke a gear tooth in my gt box without much force using a puller

thanks for the advice mate :)
i think im just gonna change the diff and driveshaft seals, too worried about wrecking something. Oh and set the preload as i think its wrong as theres in and out play in the driveshaft flange
where did you get your decent press from? Any recommendations?
thanks

hmm, it seems to be out of print now that book, there are some for sale on amazon for like £35+.

if there's play in the flanges have you checked the tightness of the central allen head bolt in them?

got it apart, it would apear the diff itself is worn itself, bearngs dont seem too bad (know they are clearance bearings)
would you mind watching this video just to confirm it is fudged as the senior bmw tech said its knackered but they dont rebuild gearboxes
so pauls word would be good, let me know if the link doesnt work
i can only imagine that by the time this wear is transmitted to the wheel its a massive amount
what should i do? New diffs dont come with the inner cogs do they?
much appreciated

I dont know as i dont think it comes with the bits that are worn on mine. In pauls guide he changes the old sun gears over to his new diff
