hardchargin40

Did you set it to the correct mark?  the O or the Z.

matthg40

i was told to set it to the z

hardchargin40

Set Cam to the 0 mark.

Set 6deg ignition timing to the Z

matthg40

i set the crank to the z and just lined the cam up with the arrow on the cam cover

PeteG40

thats why it runs like shit then! probably a tooth out.

hayesey

the cam timing is probably a tooth or so out then.

matthg40

so in simple leicester speaking terms lol thats none technical what do i need to set it to

matthg40

sorry boys im lost lol i need to set the cam to the o and the ignition to z correct?so what about the crank

hardchargin40

Do a search on cam timing.  You are aligning the camshaft pulley dot against the arrow with the bottom crank pulley's O mark.

Once this is done, you can use a strobe light to set up the ignition base timing.  by moving the distributor round to align the Z mark (engine running).

matthg40

the z mark on the crank pully is that correct

matthg40

im sorry to sound a dumb ass my haynes manual is about as useful as a chocolate kettle
