have you tried searching as this comes up quite a lot.

the main thing is to check when the charger was last serviced.  If it's due then you need to budget at least £300 for that.  Otherwise, just check the whole shell for rust.  Battery tray is very common but at this age so are sills where the trim is riveted on.

yeah the charger just got a stage 4 from jabba.. recently how long would you recommend you service them and lubricate? lookily its got one tiny spot of rust on the body other than that its sweet..wish i could say the same for the battery tray  ::)

DMWG40

I would say longer, some have gone on fine without service for 140k.
That's the charger. so  depending on how your driving style is. it can depending

depends what size pulley it is being run on.  If it's a standard pulley then I'd probably want it looking at every 40k or 5 years.  If it's a 65mm pulley then every 20k at the most and probably every two years irrespective of mileage.

You don't need to add any lube to it unless the boost return is removed in which case every 1000 miles give it a couple of quick sprays.

Bear in mind I don't think repair panels are available any more for that battery tray so a repair piece will need making.

g40_will

yeah its 65mm pully..

not too fussed about the battery tray really

hayesey

you want to get it fixed because for one thing it'll leak water all over your feet and carpets and the rust will only spread throughout the bulkhead if you don't stop it.

i fell for that one, dashboard out straight away and a lot of welding.
also check sills for rot

lance

feel up behind the plastic arches for rot too and on jacking points also bottoms of doors rot too, there getting old now so id just check everything.

Take a squint at the fuel pump and filter location; it's a bit of a rust trap. Put a bit of pressure on the boot floor above it too. It should have been undersealed but I've seen a few in scrapyards with holes in the boot floor at that point.
