it turns over fine but just wont fire

has been running this week fine, i have checked and there is a spark to all leads and plugs
i pulled the pipe off the end of the fuel rail and tried firing it and no fuel came through

First of all, check the fuel pump relays (poor contact or even broken)
If there is no pump relay problem you have to replace the fuel pump

g40chris

where are the fuel pump relays and what do they look like

Yes mate, these 2 little boxes that are next to the ecu, also check the single one that's over the fuse box...

g40chris

checks the 2 boxes, how can i tell if these are working or not

they were both connected fine, one had a little bit of green on it but i cleaned all the terminals and refitted but no joy.

i will go to check the other little box now

g40chris

cleaned all the terminals of the box above the fusebox and still wont start

there was a white connector coming from a red cable with a fuse which had blown with 5amp fuse with radio/charger writtn on it

any ideas what i should do next

hayesey

check the wiring between the yellow blade fuse on top of the fusebox and the red/yellow wire to the fuel pumps.  There's a diagnosis thread in one of the FAQ sections with more details in it, have a read of that.

g40chris

looked at the FAQ's and i realised that i adjusted the idle screw but didnt do this as described in the FAQ's. could this be a problem

hayesey

that's not going to affect the fuel pumps running.  It's going to either be a dead pump, engine bay to pump wiring, that fuse, fuel pump relay, ecu issue....

g40chris

im finding it weird as it was running beautifully yesterday, decided to take the battery off to charge it and now it wont start with the battery charged.

if there was a problem with the pump or fuel system in some way surely it would have cut out yesterday. gutted i wanted to get it sorted tonight so i can move the car so i can take my bins out and they are full. oh well

g40chris

the yellow fuse is fine
aint got a multimeter to check the wiring

cant really hear the pump priming at all

if its got a spark then the distributor should be ok i assume

i hate problems like this, but when they are sorted you have piece of mind that that part is new

Robin

go to VW and buy a new relay and try it to see if it solves the problem, if not then it may be your fuel pump but they uaually die slowly rather than all of a sudden.

g40chris

so i need to ask for a new fuel pump relay

are they expensive and are they g40 specific. my local vw aint much kop

g40chris

fuel pumps are cheap enough at vw, checked today

i have a feeling its the immobiliser not desarming, is there any way to bypass it to see if its that
