Ongoing Projects / Re: G40 out after 10 year
Last post by gaz g40 - September 16, 2023, 10:02:54 AM
So yesterday I took the g40 for it's first MOT in 10 year. I told no one, I even took the ring door bell off so the wife wouldn't see.
She passed with a couple of advisories that I expected.
Soon as she passed I went to the wife's work to suprise her but unfortunately she heard me before she saw me.
I then spent about 2 hours just driving around and re living my youth. The smiles, waves and points from people I got was awesome but the g smile thrill just made it for me. So hopefully I'll get her out more often now then over the winter get the advisories sorted

It's not been too bad, it's needed a few repairs on the floor & sills. It's one of those that if left a few more years would have gone too far.

I think most 2f polos are worse these days though yeah.

Things I need at the moment is a decent genuine driver's side wing (it had pattern ones on and whilst they are fine, I'd rather put genuine ones on) and a decent pair of bumpers as these ones have quite deep scratches on corners of them. A green tint windscreen would be good too as I acquired a full set of green tint glass some years ago but accidentally smashed the windscreen by rolling my other polo into it in the garage a couple of years ago :(

Glad the arms have come in handy, any other bits you may need drop me a message I may have stuff in the garage

Time for another update. Fair bit of progress, Steve has also moved into a bigger unit now so there was some delay while everything got moved into there. He now has loads more space to play with!

underneath seam sealed:

and underseal sprayed on, Upol Gravitex Plus used as it gives a nice finish when sprayed:

That's basically it for the underneath now. It will be getting wax sealer applied too but that needs to happen after paint (apparently it can react with the paint otherwise).

Now Steve has started removing all the paint. Engine bay first:

Then that was painted in Bilt Hamber Hydrate 80 to provide a rust proof undercoat:

Now for the main paint removal. We knew this had had some paint applied at various points in the past (see the photos in the first post of this thread). But there was a lot of paint on it to remove!:

Also, as you can see, it's off the spit now and mounted on a dolly to move around and do the paint prep and eventually spraying. Wont be made rolling until all that's done to keep the nice new or powder coated suspension bits nice and clean.

Fantastic work work there, hoping the tca Pete got off me have helped you out.
Keep the updates coming

cheers Gaz, yes the TCA will be a big help. I've not done anything with it yet but will be putting the bush into a new normal polo arm soon. Along with another bush I got off pete so will end up with a decent, basically new pair of g40 arms. I also want to flush out all the old crusty grease from the bushes and put new in. It seems to me that the old ones I have with worn bushes, the grease solidifies and then the bush just wears.

Wanted / Re: Inline Fuel Pump
Last post by chenderby - September 10, 2023, 12:38:08 PM
Let me know if you sorted your fuel pump issues. The original replacement I put on died pretty quickly, I replaced it with the Bosch 0580464070, but that is noisy straight away..... Not sure if I have a bad pump, or if there is something else going on here. I put a pre-filter before the pump which looked pretty clean when I checked it. I could try another 0580464070 or OTP017 maybe but its getting a bit silly.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
