hey Sam

The charger was serviced and belt replaced last year with a handful of miles done since. Got my 1st proper drive out in it today and I had a smile from ear to ear!

I'd be changing the charger timing belt at the very least before running it btw. There is a guide on here I think on how to do it.

I want to recommission my G40 after about 10 year storage. Been garaged in dry conditions. I seem to recall there used to be a couple of garages that did charger refurbs and recons of G40s. Any recommendations?

cheers fella, looking forward to taking delivery of it on the 18th and giving it a good going over and getting it out once the salty roads are gone in spring.

Congrats on the purchase, it does look a nice example. There is a PH article on it from when it first went on sale if you've not seen it. https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-spottedykywt/gold-dust-grade-vw-polo-g40-for-sale/46568

hey Pete,

Flew down to London from the north east of Scotland to view this G on the weekend, I went with a long list and intention to check every nut and  bolt before contemplating buying but when the garage door opened I was SOLD! This G is coming to Scotland and I cant wait to cherish it.

A dream come true  8)

It's been for sale for a long time, probably due to the price  which started something like 16k.

They are still 30+ years old, so bushes, corrosion etc can still get the better of them when stored.

Hey Folks,

After owning a Mk2 Polo GT for my first car I have always pined for a G40...20+ years later I see there is one for sale at a garage just south of London. Its been up for sale for a couple years so many of you may know of it? Other than the price is there a reason why this hasn't sold before now? Going to view but anxious its a rotter in a fancy dress.

any advise would help.

If anyone has any advice about posting pics on here, would be much appreciated. I've got a lot of pics of my old G40 from about 10 years ago I'd like to share.

you're using google photos already so it's not too hard. When you've got one of those links you posted above open in a web browser, right click the photo and select "copy image address" (that's from Chrome if you're using some other browser the wording might be slightly different). Then when making a post on here, click the "Insert an Image" icon which looks like a screen with a green circle at the bottom right. Then you can just paste in the copied address to the image and it'll appear in your post. You can put in a height & width if you want it to appear smaller.
