Just use 10-40 and change them at 1000km with the oil filter

I dont think so... The factory books write that G40s should use 10-30 but using 10-40 u are just fine... The only thing  you have to do is to change your oil and oil filter in 1000km

No, no... It's in kilometers

It's 1000km/1.6=6250miles

I'd take it easy for a few hundred miles but make sure you DO rev past 4,000RPM- You want to get the best cylinder sealing possible all the way up the bore, the ring will only gain the last few fractions of a mm when the engine is revved and rods etc streach that bit extra. On the first start up (once you've primed the oil pump etc) I'd try to let it sit at about 3000rpm for 10/15mins- purely so the oil pressure is higher to ensure all components are properly lubricated after being dry during the build.

Use normal synta to run the engine in- I've never seen why running in oils need to be used to be honest, I've spoken to alot of experienced engine builders- and I don;t know of one that uses run-in oil.

If you've had machining work done I'd be inclined to change the filter after 50miles and oil after the initial start-up just to ensure any debris floating around isn't doing any damage for a long period of time. After that I'd probably drop the sump at 1000miles and check everything over, check torques and clean the sump out etc.

Rings will be properly bedded in after a few thousand miles, but you'll be able to give it death after a few tanks of fuel if it's been built properly.

cheers everyone, will do as above.

6250miles sounds a lot more than i have ever heard of for running an engine in. how do they run them in from factory.

got a few gallons of syntha silver in now, so need to link rad up, clutch cable, and random bits here and there. fill with oil and water and hopefully it will start. can i run the engine in without my supercharger linked up as im fabricating a new setup for my eaton so its sits better but just wanna get the engine sorted yet

500-1000 miles is good for running in a fresh engine. You don't have to drive like a granny either in this time, if your confident of the assembly. Just make sure you don't put the engine under excessive load (e.g don't go up hills in the higher gears).

I'm using running in oil for the first drops. This is pure mineral oil with no additives.
