So the girl fired up yesterday and the oil light has been flashing since, plenty of oil in so it's defo a pressure problem. Swapped a sender over and that hasn't worked. My gauge seems to read off the gauge 7 bar plus or zero depending on the way round the pos and neg is , think it might be broke so trying to borrow someone else's. seems to be running fine and idling, isn't smoking or overfueling or leaking anywhere just this pressure problem.

Has anyone got any input into what they think it is? Any suggestions?

Cheers

when I got mine back on the road after a couple of years off the other year I had a problem with too much oil pressure.  The relief valve in the oil pump had seized up.

Did u prime the pump before it went in

Prime the pump? What does than entail Pete? Followed Haynes step by step.

Cheers dude

i think as its pumping - that shouldnt be an issue... and the pump was new.... hmm

Sure its not the sensor on the back off the head? I changed the one on left as you look down at it and caused a constant flashing oil light, , then changed it for another spare and it was fine. Might be worth a trip to the scrappy for one? Just too rule it out?

I have about 4 spares dude , my T-piece for the oil return was in the right hand slot with the pressure sender in the top. Took that out so I could swap the senders round and realised that the head had stripped the threads off the t-piece.

So I have chucked the left sender in the right slot and just put the oil feed in the left slot untill I get a new t-piece .

So I need to check the pressure to confirm that its good really

ground the wire - does it stop? this will show that its the wire, not the clocks.

Some oil pumps won't scavenge if they're currently empty, so in days of old they used to be packed with grease/ ky jelly (ayee) so when first turned over they sucked through oil.

Tom- is that pressure when cold, hot, what rpm?

I circulated the oil for a few key turns with no fuel and spark so everything lubracated properly.

This is the situation when the key is turned straight away Pete, seems to warm up ok but only let it idle for a few mins .

Got a mechanical oil pressure kit on the job today, 90psi when cold and down to about 18 when warm . So glad that issue has been cleaned off my mind, the pressure sender i did change (left hand one) has stopped the oil light flashing so I can only assume that was the low pressure one! Bought a VDO t-piece from VW heritage so won"t have the crap part from demon tweeks any more
