Engine stuttering!

It started stuttering on the way back from the rolling road day. I thought it was due to moisture somewhere it shouldnt be so sprayed abit of wd40 here and there and it solved the problem.

Now its started doing it again but worse! If i sit at a constant speed, every so often the car would jerk and then go back to being fine. If i put my foot down, it doesn't do it. The car idles fine.

I'm guessing at a misfire? I've gotta change the plugs for W5DPO as i have some cheap ones in (they're better than the old ones!) from GSF. I did think it was too much crap in the fuel filter as i have run the tank to just about empty once!

I'm putting it in the garage once i get my money through to have a major service. I've just gotta keep it running till then.

without a doubt first thing to change as you said is gonna be changing the plugs for the right ones...every g40 owner knows or should know...there is only one true to plug to use W5DPO's...some people have used others to be fair but ive run w5dpos the whole time and never had ay issues with them...expensive though but last AGES!!

if there is no change i'd start checking dizzy cap rotor arm/leads and so on...

my car has the same problem as yours, or at least very similar...
i already changed the spark plugs and didnt make a difference, plus i replaced the two sensors on the termostat and the lambda sensor as well, and still no diference
you should try to change the knock sensor it is on the back of the block next to the injectors, since is the cheapest one and if it doesnt work then try something else.
about the plugs change the as fast as you can because the car shouldnt run with any others you can damage the pistons, it happened to one friend of mine.

hope it helps

hmm, maybe check the condition of the dizzy cap, rotor arm and leads if changing the plugs doesn't sort it.

I fried a set of HT leads on the rollers at Aldon once. Completely finished them off, was missing all over the place. Tried all sorts and it was the leads in the end. They were an unknown quantity at the time as I hadnt had the car long. Definetely worth a try.

vwmk3jon

The leads haven't been changed since i got the car which is dumb of me really but things happen and i end up having to go and do something else!

Its strange because the car was fine to and from work today - round trip of 25miles. It seems to get worse the damper it is?  Once i spray some wd40 around, its fine!

I'll get sme new leads and plugs when i get paid and see if that makes a difference. Bet i couldve gained an extra 5/6bhp if i had the charger done and engine serviced?

its electrical, sounds like leads to me mate if damp is making it worse an wd40 helps.

vwmk3jon

I'll pop into gsf and get some new leads and plugs and see what that does.

I've used Bosch Super-4s at about thirty quid a set for a good few years with no problems.
W5DPO's seemingly go on forever though if you give them a clean in a low pressure bead blaster, assuming you can find one.

The plugs in at the mo are for the mk2 i think? I know they aint perfect but i was on a tight budget and anything was better than the extremely torched items already in there.

mines just started stuttering too recently.
Funny thing is it only does it after i use boost. I'd be driving normal and it will be fine, when I give it some boost it pulls fine then when back to driving normally again it will start to stutter, missing a beat every 4 seconds for about 15mins then after that it will be ok.

Going to check dizzy and stuff over weekend. I think it might be knock sensor

Mine just seems to do it when it feels like it! Not been so bad lately although it does it more when its damp or the roads are real wet! I'm yet to change my plugs and leads (damn credit crunch!) but once they're done, i'll report back.

Boost doesn't seem to be a factor in when mine splutters. I've had my ISV cleaned out and the CO2 pot and screw on TB were tweaked and that seemed to improve the car.

While your at gsf get a cap and rota mate (not much more on top of the leads & plug), evrytime i have had a problem like that it has been one of four things and those are plugs, leads, cap & rota arm. If none of those do the trick then back to the drawing board. ???

You would have definetly gained a few more ponies if you had the car and charger serviced, mind you i did the charger just before the rolling road day, and only got 137bhp. Noticed the next week while i did a full service that the boost pipe had come loose at the rad so i was loosing pressure, put it back on an it was much faster. Need to go back again now to get a true read out dam it.

Was gonna say matey, I was sure your engine had afew mores mods than mine!

My alternators decided to die now so the list of parts required is growing! I've got a rotor arm, just need to get it fitted.
