Polo Genesis G40 (Conversion)
« on: September 23, 2012, 12:47:52 pm »
Due to a change in circumstances, I'm selling up a couple of cars and here's the first to go.

1993 Polo Genesis Coupe converted to G40 by me back in 1997 and bought back last year on a bit of a whim really for old times sake. The car was featured in VW Motoring back in 1998.

The good...
Indian red bodywork looking better than most cars of it's age.
Top end rebuild on a 40k head last year inc. genuine head gasket/bolts etc.
Charger rebuilt by me and Pete Mirfin last year.
G60 steels.
Audioscape door pods.
Seat Ibiza half leather seats.
Powerflow exhaust, nice and discreet, fits beautifully, nice and quiet.
Very reliable and pulls like a good 'un. Bottom end has done around 150k.
New inline fuel pump fitted.
Tax till December and MOT'd until June.

The bad...

Shell has now covered 234k miles but don't let that put you off. She looks better than most the same age.

Clutch slipping a little when pushed hard. Driven normally in everyday use you wouldn't notice. I would quite happily drive it anywhere in the UK in it's current state as I have every faith it would take me wherever I want to go without a problem.

Rear tyres are getting towards their wear markers.

Water leak into the footwell when it rains. Battery tray has been welded by a previous owner but I think it needs sealing properly.

Previous owner fitted a Mk.2 arch set(fronts cut to fit) I will include the correct Mk.3 items.

There's probably other things I've forgotten but that's about the sum of it. I've had fun with it and carried out a lot of remedial work that 11 years away from me have happened to it to make it right again.

As for price, I'll start it up here at £1650 ovno.

Car is located in Nottingham.

Please, no dreamers, test pilots or timewasters!!!

My laptop is playing up at present so I'll try and download some pics at work if I get the chance.

Cheers  ;D

I've seen Mk.3 Polo's with half the mileage look worse than this. It's not mint, but it's a good useable everyday classic. Drove 130 mile round trip today to see an Audi A4 cabrio (which turned out to be a bag of bob) without missing a beat ;)

I hope someone takes this on and enjoys it to well over 300k, I think its worth it.....  ;D

I think it will be one of those cars which will still be going strong when all others are dead and buried, I mean after all its had what, maybe 5/6 owners with various G40's in it and tons of money spent on it over the years.

It's become its own cult classic!

Hi, yes, it's still for sale. There's a fair offer on the table at the moment but the guy hasn't viewed it or left a deposit so it's first come first served.
