That was the post i got my bolt specs from lol. Also to add, thats the catalogue part number we found, read in the book it was a 95mm bolt not 98.... So either the books wrong or that web listing is wrong.

g40 ones are 98mm long.

The bga ones there i have in my shed - they are 10.9 (well ones i have).   However BGA list the g40 headgasket as same as a 1.3cl etc.  which it isnt!

maybe worth emailing them to see if they have info on tensile strength ?

Its hard to know whats what! sls and bar-tek advertise them but they are not correct... although im sure many owners have used them!

Maby it depends how serious your engine build is?! ... i dont really know.

Sorry Pete i didnt word it very well, the catalogue with the same part number in we found said the bolts were 95mm long. so not G40 items as you say they are 98mm.

So i think given the book is manufacturer i'd tend to believe that than a Ebay listing, but nothing is to say he/she hasent measured the bolts and its the manufacturer that had a misprint in the book.

100 percent the one in store said 95 for the PY, we did look at everything 98mm and the PY engine code came as 95mm in the book, G60 wasent listed atall either as i was going to get them if they came back as 98.

I cant seem to get past the parts list on the online BGA catalogue :-( I'd take a print screen to show them otherwise. Never mind, stock 95mm's and aex headgasket shall suffice for the time being.

Thanks very much for the help chaps, Took that copy into the local place and it was a other catalogue that showed it as 95mm not the BGA one. Dug that out and it is indeed showing them as 98mm so ive got some on order :D 60 something pounds plus the dreaded.

 Thanks chaps :-)

I had a credit note for a clutch that was £80.... so got that bolts and gasket for very little money :-) I very rarely use that particular parts place, im usually on ebay and the likes but i had to get the money back for this credit note as it runs out the end of this month. Wasent my clutch but i got the credit note so head bolts and head gasket cost just over a fiver....Thats why i was on here asking about other options ha. happy chappy anyway, so thanks Pete :D

Interesting stuff, i was aware that G40 bolts were specific and longer than the others but i didnt know that they were higher in tensile strength....

In my case i have a skimmed head and a lightly decked block and am going to using a metal head gasket as i expect to be 200+ bhp. I planned to use non-G40 bolts when i build the engine up in a few weeks as they were shorter and certainly dont want to bottom out with the longer ones, so my question is to those in the know, can you get higher tensile strength bolts in the shorter length from anyone or do most that need to use the shorter bolts just go with the 8.8's?

wouldnt think they actually need to be shorter... yoof used a metal gasket and g40 bolts to good effect.

That said hayesey uses polo cl 8.8 bolts on his turbo and he drives it like a roughassednortherner

I didn't know G40 bolts were a higher tensile strength either.  I thought it was just the length that was different to account for the standard g40 gasket being quite thick.  Since I use a thin metal gasket I used the shorter bolts.

Anyway it's survived lots of track days and no head bolts have snapped, it doesn't use any water or leak.
