Was there ever a Recaro option as a factory fit to the G. Seeing one advertised, but totally new to me.

I've never seen one. The Recaro seats are pretty big for starters. The leccy ones I was going to fit almost touched in the middle of the car!

Never seen a set as standard. But I'm sure I have seen a few of escort seats modded to fit as these are fairly narrow. Commonly used in MK1 and MK2 Golfs

I think the standard seats are made by recaro anyway aren't they?  recaro dont just make big bucket seats for sierra cosworths, lots (if not most) of standard seats are made by them.

I dont think theres any factory option for bigger seats, I have seen some half-leather ones but not sure if they were a factory option somewhere or just custom-made

Thanks for that guys; so essentially even if the seats are stock, the seller isn't lying. Nice.

i have fitted bmw leather recaros to my car, but had to track down recaro sub frames for ether a golf mk1 or a scirocco, these arent cheep or easy to find but bolt direct to seat base, and then on to car, and gives a factory fit finish, my seats came out of an older bmw 6 serise and include the back bucket seats, i have only fitted the fronts so far,(and these where easy) i have mesuard the back seats up (and they look as if thay will fit no problem) but will require some fabrication of a mounting frame to hold all 3 parts together, and not have them rattleing around in the back. i will update and let yous know if i encounter any problems when i get time to get them in!
