Window winder mech
« on: June 19, 2012, 04:55:21 pm »
My driver side has been broken for a while e.g it would go up but not down. I bought a spare mech a while ago to replace it with and had a crack today. What seems to have happened is the clasp which the window sits in has bonded to the window and corroded off the mechanism, so the window is firmly stuck in the metal clasp. Getting the old mech out was a massive ball ache as i couldnt detatch the wire mechanism so I ended up cutting the wire to free it. Whats made it even worse is that the mech I have from an alpine white mk3 like mine is not the correct one, the wire is sat in a full metal and won't go over the metal runner which the window sits in. Having ran out of time before work i ended up just sticking the wrong mech in touching the metal stop and winding it to the top to stop the window falling down (which it did despite reading the haynes manual and telling me to stick it up, which turned out to be a nightmare itself getting it back on both runners) .

Has anyone else had this problem?
