Smoke when hard accelerating

Hi all, as the title says my g40 seems to smoke a lot when I give it a bit of beans and can't understand why because I've had the head rebuilt 2k miles ago replacing stem seals, reseating the valves and replacing all necessary parts needed with the charger rebuilt 3k miles ago just before gwerks closed down. The only thing I can think of is that I bought a stainless manifold and put it on during the head rebuild process which cancelled out the cat, could it just be chucking out crap because of the decat? Anyone got any ideas? Cheers

djtez

can you identify the colour of the smoke ?

does it faintly have a blue tinge?

I'd be worried on the fact that your charger was built by G-werks, alot of talk on the forums of people having trouble with them especially towards the end of the business!

Check the crankcase breather too, make sure it isn't blocked.

PeteG40

too much oil, blocked oil drain and blocked breather or kinked breather pipe can all pressurise crankcase and therefore oil seeps out or can blow seals - quite often the scroll seals, which are  a weak link.

I'd check how much oil is in boost pipes

Yoof

Black Smoke = Fuel (check BTS, Plugs, Ignition Components, and if at part throttle, Lambda)
Blue Smoke = Oil (check boost pipes first- if these are clean check breather, if this is clean see if smoke is on lift off (valve stem seals) or under boost (piston rings))
White/Grey Smoke = Steam Your exhaust, Stainless especially holds a fair amount of condensation- which as EGT rises, turns to steam. This could also point to headgasket but steam will have a sweet smell (coolant) if this is the case and your plugs will be clean if the combusion chamber is being steam cleaned by a leaky gasket.

Also have a think about what quantity of fluid is being consumed in each; coolant, oil and fuel. Roughly 1 litre of water makes 1000litres of steam.

Sprak plugs will tell you alot.

Reassuring ^^

I get a guff of grey smoke on full throttle sometimes, usually if it's been sat for a while. I suspect it's blowing a load of shit out of the exhaust and boost hoses as it only tends to do it once or twice on a run.

AlexG40

Yeah, you get residue that pools in the boost system if you leave it off boost then is pushed out. Mine used to do it the first time I put my foot down on a drive out then not again till the next drive.

just one thing it's normal to make a litle smoke when we do a hard acceleration?

Beckett

probable from the 9k RPM from cold you achieve

Gilly

car is no longer my daily and smokes a bit when boosting, i like to give it beans sometimes to clear the crap out ut will check crankcase breather first, thanks for everyones advice

Alex

Mine's stopped doing this now, had a few days of being worked hard and it seems to have cleared it out.

Guessing it was residual crap from before the rebuild, I don't know.
