throttle body issue, and advice with clutch
« on: March 31, 2012, 01:11:18 am »
I have just bought my first G, and it has had the boost return mod done, i am just wondering if the throttle body should be blanked off? (the boost return side) or when its on idle, its completely open? is that right?

also, i am looking into getting a new clutch as its started slipping and i am wondering if theres any decent uprated ones out there, ive heard that afh ones are decent enough, i will have about 100 to spend on one

The boost return should be open on idle and totally closed on wide open throttle.

right, i will check to see if that works then, but i do have a slight idle problem where its idling a bit too low and cuts out when its cold..

Stick a filter on the end of it though, if your belt ever snaps or looses teeth etc the engine will run with the charger not working, as i have experienced many times, and it will take the shortest route which is that return pipe and it wont be filtered air going in your engine.

that's only really going to get you a standard clutch kit.  Helix make decent uprated ones but they're more like £300.  Or a company called CG Motorsport make something that's about £200 but I've not used that one myself so cant comment on how good it is.  An early AFH clutch (AFH being the engine code for a mk4 16v polo) fits but there's nothing uprated about it, it's the same as a g40 clutch.

I can't get either of those links to work, does it say what their max torque handling is?

both the drivetorque and black diamond say that they can cope with the 25% increase and both are a kevlar friction plate

25% over standard g40 power or do they reckon 25% more than the standard clutch can reasonably cope with?  If 25% over standard g40 power then that's still only about 140lb/ft.

I guess a better question is, what power are you planning on tuning the engine to?

they say 25% power and torque increase, but im going to run it as it is for about a year i think, its currently running an eaton with about 160 bhp and iirc something like 136ftlbs, i wouldnt mind getting about 180bhp out of it tho, but im happy as it is atm

also the drivetorque one is 196 quid and the black diamond one is about 236
