Engine Temperature

Hi all...

This is my first post... Just bought my first G40 and totally love it (until the head gasket went)! what engine temperature should it be running at?

Mine has just returned from having headgasket... waterpump done... Took it for a really good test drive today. Temperature seems to run nicely around 90 but when i slow down to a crawl in heavy traffic it creeps up to about 100ish and stopped it hit 110... the fan kicked in at 110. the temp light didn't come on so im guessing the over heating temp is higher?

My mate said he would put a manual fan switch in which would keep it cool... any thoughts?

Thats sounds about right, they do get very hot in traffic.

Thank god... since the headgasket went on the way home i've been really paranoid! I might replace the temp sender too just to be on the safe side. and with the manual switch i can flip it over when i want... sound good?

also thinking of fitting a bigger fan from a Corrado.. anyone else done this?

corrados have two smaller fans don't they?  but you'll not fit both onto a polo rad as corrado ones are miles bigger.

It should have a twin speed fan on it with three wires on the connector.  The first speed should come on at just over 90deg and then 2nd speed (faster and louder) at about 110deg.  Sounds to me like your first speed isn't working.

Corrado's have one larger fan with lots more blades, well the 16v's and G60's only have one anyway.

I have a 16v Corrado one on mine.

It will fit with slight modification to the Corrado's radiator shroud to clear the radiator temp switch and bottom left radiator hose if I remember correctly:

It should be working as i had a new switch fitted last week but i'll check anyway...

I'll have a look at the corrado shroud and see what it entails... is the corrado fan 3 speed too?

Its a twin speed the same as the original, uses the same plug too, so once you bolt it on its only a matter of plugging it in.

that's interesting, I've only really looked at VR6 ones, just assumed they all had the same setup.  So do you think that's better than the polo one?

bigger diameter with more blades should shift more air i thinks... really wanna get this done.

The standard fan should be dual speed shouldn't it? 90 and 110? mine isn't kicking into at 90? thats not right is it?

yes it should be twin speed.

somethings not right then! think another visit to the garage is in order... If a manual switch is fitted.. will the fan still work as normal (twin speed) but the new switch overrides it?
