Removing side trim/bump strips
« on: March 05, 2012, 07:34:30 pm »
Okay, so I know it's stuck on - but what's the easiest way to remove it after 20 years? I stood on the strip on the driver's side and it wouldn't budge, and I'm a fat bastard!

Might be lazy and leave it to the bodyshop.

if you look underneath at the rear, there is a divit... they are actually 2 piece.  The top bit should lever off, unclipping, then the bottom bit will be more like a strip on the door.  Boiling water on that

I've spent hours removing the tar they leave behind. Painstaking work! I did what pete says but had to use bug and tar remover for the adhesive.

i used original VW "double face" it's called in French/Dutch  got it from a mate who works in a VAG garage.

like the word says, is a strip wich sticks on 2 sides. (yellow cover you have to peal off)

no complaints, have it now one for about 7 months.
