G40 1993 Owned by a Lord and then me. Genuine 50k miles
« on: December 12, 2011, 04:22:01 pm »
I am selling my G40 and this seems to be the best place for it. Please ignore the fact that i own a garage as this really is my car.

My father bought it from his neighbour, Lord Kilpatrick of Kincraig in 2000 as Lady Kilpatrick bought a new Polo at that time. They bought it new from Sloans VW in Edinburgh where it was serviced throughout their ownership. We have subsequently had it for a city car and it has always been kept in a heated and locked garage.

I have now given the family a new polo with power steering as my father is in his 80's and needs an easier car to use.

The mileage is absolutely genuine at 50104 and it has no rust or scratches at all. The car is entirely original and there is no rust or damage to it all. Sits on new tyres and has the original unmarked BBS alloys. Nothing has been modified on the car at all and it is as per the factory.

i have no doubt it will be the rarest of these cars with its history.

Pictures are on my website as below:

Any questions, please feel free to ask for Fraser when you call.

Interesting car, but what happened to the G40 badges?

i took them off when it was bought to stop unwanted attention or theft. They are in the glove box as original.

Nice example of a G40. You'll be quite interested in the thread in General Chat titled "Anyone got a spare £6k?"

Love them in that colour. Pearl grey is my favourite.

It says 133bhp there. Have you had something done to it?

Yes i did see the comments about the price and suspect faults with transmission, engine etc. There are at most 10 cobbled streets in Edinburgh so there is no real worry there and it does not have the traffic problems of many cities so is rarely driven in stop start traffic.

i think everyone can make assumptions about cars without seeing them and there will always be kerbside motor experts on any car forum, i thought this may have been the place to notify members who were enthusiasts.

Its a great little car and anyone is welcome to come and see it.

it is an enthusiast forum.

I have seen 3/4 very low mile one owner g40s (and owned 2 myself).  One of a friends was factory fresh with 32,000 miles (ish) went for about £3800 and one of mine with just 50,000 miles went for just over £3000.  These were in less financially harsh times too.

Both were standard, had service history (including cambelt service, new plugs, leads, exhausts, bill of sale etc)

This is the basis of some of the comments.

Good luck with the sale, I'm sure its a very nice car. However rarity doesn't often mean desiribility and if it was a mk2 golf gti 16v, i'd probably agree with the valuation.

I think you've done the right thing posting on here to start with, most people on here have owned more than one G40 and are real enthusiasts and are pretty helpful people.  I don't even own one anymore but am still a regular visitor for example.

A few things though, a picture of the engine bay would help, where are the fog lamps? from your photo it looks like the blanks have been removed in preparation? Also are the badges black? have they been painted?

I live within 10 minutes of this garage, have owned 2 G40's in the past and must admit I have been looking around for yet another G40! So you would think with this one being so close that it would be a no brainer.....

To be honest I am not even tempted to pop along for a look, whats the point at that asking price?!!

Fantastic looking clean car but I'm sorry to say you will never ever get 6k for it I'm afraid!

Calling us kerbside motor experts is not a great sales pitch. There's nowhere in this country with more combined knowledge about the car you're trying to sell than this forum. Maybe people who know what they're talking about are not the market you're looking for?

Thanks for the interest anyway, its always the same with forums and the territorial attitude.

I would say its rather you thats territorial about the inflated price, rather than the majority here who i believe are being helpful and honest - given that some people here have owned g40s 10+ years they know the car and the market for g40s more than anyone.

At 50k its potentially needing a cambelt, a supercharger service and who knows what else (how old are the tyres/exhaust etc)

I'd say good luck with the sale, but I think you will need another Lord to get anyone to part with £6k for it.

if we are 'kerbside motor experts'  then you must be a 'frank butcheresque carlot dealer'

Now advertised at £5k. Should we have a sweepstake to see what it drops to before selling?
