what is your pn for the turbo and i can see if i can get a kit,
I use BTN turbos 01895 466666
SCM turbos  01484 345345
Tait euroturbos 01706342025
and AET eng  01924 894171.

if your turbo is a t25 i think the kit is about £150+ for a garrett kit.

I would also be interested in the prices as I will rebuild my T25 over the winter.. If its cheap enough :D

Is there much play in the shaft saff? it might beyond repairing?

Yo man, whipped the turbo off tonight and started splitting it today. Got the exhaust housing off but stalled on getting the compressor side off as i dont have any circuit pliers at the house!

No play whatsoever in the shaft side to side or inwards/outwards, so im reckoning its just a seal.

Just cleaning it up now  and ill take some pics. Im not sure if its a carbon or dynamic seal turbo. Just gonna order a kit from turbo rebuild and replace the seals and see how i get on. Didnt take long at all to get the turbo off, and with there being no shaft play i should be winning and have spare bits for a full rebuild at a later date when it needs it

Well looks like it was the rear seal that had gone,

I've ordered a full rebuild kit and a staggered rear oil seal from turbo-rebuild.co.uk 68 quid delivery by special delivery so should be able to get it all rebuilt over the weekend.

some good links for T25 rebuilds

hey,
i will have to take a few shots of the small turbos at work that i will be building tomorrow for you.

If you have the comp wheel and turbine wheel out and have a scriber. there will be a little grove where the piston ring sits on the bearing housing from the turbine wheel, it will be full of carbon give it a scrape out but watch and NOT scrape a line up and down the bore or it will leak.
When you have the piston ring off the turbine wheel take a small hacksaw blade and remove the carbon from the ring groove, just watch and not mark the other machined parts of the shaft. you will see by the condition of the shaft if the bearings are worn too.

How dirty was the thing inside? i will try do a rebuild guide tomorrow

yo man,

cheers for that, i printed off the guides at work and they were sweet.

stripped it on friday, and just changed the rear piston ring seal for a new stepped one and stuck it all back together.

it wasnt too bad inside, just the heat shield on the turbine side had loads of cooked oil on it and was very oily on that side.

refitted it all today and were leak free and smokeless =] stoked!

still got the rebuild kit as the stepped oil seal was a seperate purchase so ill probably buy a spare and rebuild it fully over winter.

MOT on tuesday! woop woop

ps just gonna upload some pics now so ill update this thread with a couple of pics in a bit

exhaust housing removed and orientation marked in true PTNT fashion

note i havent pictured the marking of the nut/comp wheel and housing

lots of burnt oil and oily residue behind the heat shield

the compressor side

shaft after removing old oil seal but before cleaning out the grooves

new stepped oil seal fitted

back on the car

Looking good Saf ;)

On the same kinda note, anyone know where i can get an oil seal for the oil return pipe on a K03? Swapped turbos and now the oil returns leaking where it bolts to the bottom of the turbo housing. wasnt a seal when i removed it so put it back together like that and it leaked!!!!

VW Jon. Check the turbo FAQ section for a thread by myself, the part number is listed there.
