Using a lot of oil

Ok this afternoon after work i changed my oil and im now using redline 5w40 synthetic. Now i have covered just over 200 miles and my oil pressure started going all over the place. When i put my foot down it went from 60 psi to 40 psi. I thought it would be low oil so when i got back i checked the level and it wasnt on the dipstick. So i put in about a litre and half. Seems odd to me to use a lot of oil on a short journey. I did notice that when a car was close behind and i booted it, there was a little sort of smoke coming from behind but only on full boost it did this. Surely the head gasket isnt leaking, its only done 4k and it was a genuine one from vw.

Any ideas?

I thought 10w/40 was the preferred grade?

Thats only what the viscosity is like when cold. Still has same 40 grade when warm. But im thinking it might be that its fully synthetic not semi/part synthetic.

isn't that the engine you bored and rebuilt lately? maybe parts are beding and is consuming a bit of blood!

how are you charger seals?

Jezza-7

Yeah it is. But why would it just start doing it? Its been ok for the last 4k.

Charger was serviced about may/june time i think. Only done about 5k at very most. Closer to 4k i would say.

Ok its not the head gasket as this morning i tested a few things. Oil was getting sprayed out of the exhaust, hand was covered in seconds and then i undid the boost pipes to find oil in them. I then started the engine with the pipes off and held some tissue paper to the pipe and after about 10 seconds oil was getting sprayed onto the paper so its my charger seals that have gone. Very annoying when its only done 5k!

will just be a seal - they can last 30,000 miles, but again a psd one i had lasted 2 miles! you never know!  simple enough fix if it is a blown seal
