G40 failed m.o.t
« on: October 03, 2011, 05:43:39 pm »
Friday past was my g40's m.o.t and it failed on the most annoying things.

Battery was missing the wee clamp to hold it in place [easily fixed]

But the thing thats annoyed me is tht it failed on the boost return mod.

The guy wants me to put a small filter on the end of the throttlebody. Surely just air flows out of this? what has it got to do with an m.o.t??

I remember seeing a picture of someones enginebay on here and he had a small filter on the end of his throttlebody. could anyone send me a link for one of these please??

other than that, the car flew through :)

cheers, adrian.

i have one that'll fit if you want to make me an offer for one.

Not sure why it'd fail on that though?

He failed it calling it 'Engine/Transmission: Flame Trap - missing air cleaner???

Cheers for that mate - ill make an offer after I find out whether or not I need it. I would rather be able to ring them up and tell them they failed me for nothing.

That's exactly what I thought mate. The battery isn't goin anywhere lol. My dad seems to think the m.o.t over here in N. Ireland is stricter. I'm not sure. The guy I got was an ol c**t. Does anyone know what I can say to them about the throttlebody so I can pass. Surely only air comes out of it? What is a flame trap?

what exactly did the test failure sheet state? and what reference was it?

you can cross reference against the mot guidelines. as NI is part of the UK, i doubt they have seperate requirements.

any doubts speak to VOSA

maybe that guy was a pussy, and care about minimal stuff.

Here in Portugal, they don't like boost return mod and mot. if you have a small filter, that's ok.

It's because there's an anti-polution regulation about emissions.

Stupid stuff..

Get a scooter cone filter and just put it in for a while. You'll get one for less that 5£.

Cheers

Unsecured battery is definately an MOT failure.

^ agreed, loose battery is a fail without doubt.  Never heard of a g40 failing for having no boost return pipe though!

My mate went to one of them halfords mot places that are appearing around, and they failed him for having an air refresher hanging from his mirror.

But i agree with the boost return pipe though. Mine went through ok with it removed for past 2 years. I use a downpipe going from the t piece to quieting the sound of the air rushing through.

Battery insecure is NOT a failure just an advise, not sure he fail the other bit just being abit anal! You could speak to vosa but they will just say do you want to appeal against the tester! Best bet I would say is take it to sumone else and get it done or stick a little filter on it just to keep him happy!
