help please - Steering colum
« on: September 24, 2011, 06:47:48 pm »
Hi, i am taking my pedal box off to repair it as its cracked.

Ive got the pedal box loose but looks like the steering colum needs to come off
So i took off the steering wheel
And the shear bolt and other bolts.

Haynes manual says lift steering colum and disconnect, but cant seem to do it?!

Any help advice guidance would be much appreciated

many thanks
Rich

Needs a good hard pull once you've taken off the clamp near the pedal box. The column will be tight

Sorted it now, thanks, yeah turned out i was just being cautious, little tap here and there and it was done, pedal box had lots of cracks in!

Welded it up for now, are uprated ones available?

no uprated ones- just weld it good and proper, it fails because of the clutch pedal bending under normal use

I've never heard of a standard type but uprated pedal box Rich.
If you have welded yours up properly it should be fine.
I'll have to look at mine whilst it's out and see if any additional stitch welding or gussets can be added to improve it.
