As per the title, those of you running 256mm brakes (Golf calipers, Audi carriers) - what are your pads of choice?

Jezza-7

i was going to run golf gti 16v pads, as thats what i herd you can use.

Andy

That's right, Mk2 Golf/Scirocco 16v are the ones (thinner version of G60 or Mk3 Golf pads) - just wondering what brands people are using. Ferodo DS2500 seem to have a good write-up.

Jezza-7

Cant comment on that. I never got that far. Was looking at green stuff, red etc im not a fan of the red pads.

Pagid standard for me. But then the car doesn't really see too much stick - just road use. I did try but didn't manage to fade them. I suppose that's more the disc size though

Varley

I run the pagids too, think i got the first set through PSD and they've always performed well so never bothered changing. Pure road use though.

I'm on my last set of Raicam i got off Beavo years back. These are yet to let me down, even on the track at Oulton they held out. I've still got a box with the part number somewhere if anyone knows a Raicam stockist?

PeteG40

they don;t have a uk distributer nick i dont think.

plus last 2 sets of raicams i've seen have been cracked down the middle of the pad material when only half worn!

I used to like DS2500s with my old 239s back in't day

I got some Mintex 1144's for Oulton. They were ok for me but they did start to fade towards the end.

I'm using DS2500's and they're spot on, been used mainly on the road but did a track day at Blyton Park and I didn't notice any fade at all, this is on a GT though not a G40 :P.

Slight Hijack: Should there be little sliders for the pads (like with VWII's) with the audi carriers/golf calipers set up? As I get a clunk when I let the brakes off sharply, but I've been unable to find any sliders at all for these, none show up on ETKA.

1144s are a fast road pad, you'd want to use an 1155 for more track orientated temps, but they take a little longer to warm up.

tbh, the DS2500 knocks the spots off them anyway, even if they are quite a bit more expensive

Alex

I had Ferodo DS2000s on mine before, they worked well.

I ran my 256 setup with ebc greenstuff pads and didn't rate their at all so I swapped them over for yellow stuff pads which has made a massive difference, they coped with the nordschilfe without any probes can't really recommend them enough for the money.

Andy

I bought Ferodo DS2500s, but didn't have enough parts to fit either of the 256mm setups (Audi and Vauxhall) I've got thanks to sheared bleed nipples and/or missing caliper slide bolts, so ended up throwing on a set of TRW pads for the 239mm G40 setup for today's CP trackday.

They coped well considering, but I'd be lying if I said they weren't smoking like a bastard after several committed laps. Still, I've now got a very solid baseline for comparing the 256mm setup.
