How often should the oil in here be changed? It looks the same colour as it was when installed; is there a test I can do other than visually?
Mine was originally filled by Psd with what I was told was 'machine' type oil. Does anyone know specifically what this is or what spec it is and where I could source some. Or something suitable?

This was an early psd system so I assume it would be using a facet pump (without checking)?

Thanks All

no idea really, I'd prob do it once a year.

I used to use compressor oil in mine as it is very thin so less chance of overworking the facet pump which is only designed to pump fuel really.

Ok thanks.  The pump is audible on ignition (a 'growling' noise) - does this sound like said Facet pump?

hayesey

well any pump will make noise.  It will almost definitely be a facet pump, proper electric oil pumps are well expensive.  if you look at it, it'll say facet on it and will be a small rectangle thing.

That stuff will be fine. I would use a mocal oil pump though. My facet one died when i was going home and had to do 50 miles on no pump.

Barney

cheers.

has anyone tested how hot the oil gets in the standalone system?

scotsjohn

700ml of 0 viscosity getting to 45/50 degrees after forty miles.

Would also recommend getting some zx1 and put a cap full in with it. Just helps keep it all lubricated.
