1341 Headgasket
« on: May 26, 2011, 12:40:54 am »
Can anyone point me in the right direction to get a 2mm oversize standard headgasket?

i tried TPS but they don't go that big, gsf also said they cant get one.

what headgaskets are people using to build there 1341 bottom ends?

i want to try and keep the headgasket standard size to keep the cr standard as i'm using wossner pistons.

cheers guys...

I use a standard one think a few others do aswell, you'd be fine to use a metal one aswell it will only raise compression to 8.2-8.3-1 which shouldn't be a problem especialy if it's still supercharged

yeah - either stock g40 one with g40 headbolts or 8v mk4 on (metal one) with stock size head bolts will be ok for an overbore.

Use G40 headbolts- there's a good reason they cost more...

Is it just that they're slightly longer to accommodate the thicker G40 head gasket Pete? or is there more too it than that?

cheers for the info guys, but vw don't seen to do a 77mm bore with the standard headgasket.

if i use the metal headgasket from a mk4 8v, does anyone know the engine code or part no. to quote them?

and is this still possible to use the G40 headbolts with the metal gasket?

also, when i striped my engine, the camshaft had "PSD G40 P3" stamped on the side of it, i think this may be the eaton cam that they once sold when they were in business, but will this cam still be ok for the 1341 rebuild? ( p.s im using the eaton m45 charger for now, as i bought the car with this charger)

cheers . . .

There longer but thats not the reason. The tensile strength is different. The shorter ones are 8.8 and the longer g40 ones are 10.8 iirc.

Just ordered one mate. Its about £29.

You need to say its a 1.6 8v polo engine code AEE. I will have a quick look around for the part number as i have it somewhere.

Listen in class! G40 are 10.9  ;D

Robin got me the drawings for both bolts, as he was trying to be a pikey and save the cash, interestingly the drawing also shows a different torque/angle to pull, giving the gasket more clamping load- to cope with higher cylinder pressures. Haynes just says one torque for all... ::)

Damn lol, 0.1 out. The part number is 030 103 383H

Didnt realise they had a different torque angle. So is it still stage 1 40nm, stage 2 60nm then either 2 lots of 90 or one turn of 180?

I just used non g40 bolts with a g40 gasket :( does this mean I'm going to hav head gasket failure in the not to distant future. I was trying to be a pikey and save cash two as g40 ones are pretty expensive. Around £5 each I think  !

i have some g40 pattern part ones - which are actually longer, but will see if they are marked for strength.

yoof - you should put the torques up here if you could, would make interesting reading.
