Viability of going G60
« on: May 14, 2011, 12:54:15 pm »
How viable is the implementation of a G60 charger on a PY engine? I know most people are going turbo these days for big powers but I know G60 would be a little cheaper to do.
What kind of pulley would be suitable, I was thinking a 70mm toothed setup and I think people had problems with them giving up because of revving so fast; does anyone know what about of boost that setup would bring?
My car doesn't get thrashed too often and I do a fair few motorway miles; I just fancy doing something a little different while I still have the car.

G60 can and has been done, brakets can be made or bought from bar-tek. Think the g60's can go from a bar to a bar and a half either way they can produce upto 220 bhp or around that mark alot of Germans do it I think

I remember a mate, had a G60'd polo..
He just bolted a non ported with stock pulley g60 and the sls conversion kit and he had 1bar of boost and the car made 152hp..
Note that the engine was totally stock.

So, if you have gt inlet, bigger tb, at least 55mm exhaust, and a g40 specific 252/276 camshaft, with a 70mm pulley i guess will boost up to 1-1.1 bar

Whats a standard pulley size on a G60? I've always wondered if a big pulley was used to boost as much as a G40 on a 65mm pulley what its effect on fuel economy would be... Then again, i'd be very tempted to keep my 65mm toothed kit on it. Pulleys are not a problem, i could make my own so I could mix and match with boost pressures / types of belt. Just think it would good to not run it at crazy RPM and see if its reliable. G-lader site also do the bracket with tension pulley for a 5 / 6pk

Viable but it's not going to be cheaper than a turbo conversion.

I have a G60 charger in the PY engine.
My spec:
- ported head
- gt inlet
- de-wedged tb
- fmic
- toothed pulleys (75 mm charger pulley)
- G60 RS2 charger
- custom charger bracket
- 4-2-1 exhaust manifold
- 2,5" Jetex exhaust system

and it produces 1,2-1,25 bar of boost

How many bhp do you make with this setup?
