golf mk3 pulley
« on: May 12, 2011, 02:44:37 am »
hi there!

i've been looking for a smaller pulley to fit my charger, and as i was looking for it i found this:

sorry for the portuguese content, but you'll get the point!
http://www.custojusto.pt/Porto/2020624-Polies+Volkswagen+Polo+III+1+0.htm?

do you guys think this is a good way to move from twin v-belts to 5pk belts?
will pulley's be the same size as polo g40 standard?
will they match a corrado g60 65mm pulley?

cheers
andré

not sure - but G-ladersiete do a full ribbed belt set.

I think the charger pulley on a g60 is offset by a different amount

be aware that in Portugal they somehow run much, much smaller pulleys than us, down into the 50's is the norm there.

yeh, lots of people run 60mm, 58mm and 55mm pulley. lot's of chargers blowing arround here. i'm gonna get a 68mm or 65mm. no way getting smaller than that.

but if crank pulley and alternator pulley have the same size as g40 ones and the same offset, do i get advantages using it?

cheers

less slip on 5pk so a little more power, if they are an alloy pulley they will be lighter.
So do many chargers blow in portugal then? I wanted to go down to a 62mm toothed setup but dont want to cause a hellish amount of damage.

yeah, lots of people look for huge boost, so smaller pulley, and then, they pay the buck!

i don't trust in something smaller than 65mm. rather get the charger ported besides going smaller on pulley.

Going back some time I'm sure I remember seeing a graph of air flow or calculations on here or PSD and it showed that it was pointless going smaller than 60-65 (may have been 62?) mm as it couldn't flow any more air and it was turning over too quick/ blowing seals?

I really shouldn't smoke so much, I'd remember a lot more, hahaha

I'd love to see some air flow calculations, i think a lot was lost on the PSD forum, sadly.
