CV joint
« on: May 03, 2011, 10:05:40 am »
Where is the best place to buy CV joints, inner and outer please?
VW is a no go and I have just fitted all 4 new ones.
I want to buy more just in case as I seem to be needeing them on a regular basis. Think I bought the last lot from Euro Car Parts, not sure though.

these are getting hard to get hold of.  VW don't have any left (they'll only get complete drive shafts with cvs attached and want silly money for them), GSF and ECP don't seem to list them any more as far as I can see.  There are some on ebay but I question the quality of them.  It seems like the normal manufacturer (which I think was/is QH) has stopped making them.  It's causing me something of a problem since I broke 3 CV joints last year, am down to just using 2nd hand spares I have in my garage.

yeah if you can find a source for some that are known to be decent quality then I'd be interested in knowing.

just to let you know, I have just spoken to my local eurocarparts (helps the guy I know loves a G40!) and he has done some digging and they can still get the Q drive ones. I picking up 2 outer and 2 inners tomorrow morning.
he can get at least another 10 of each if you want me to pick some up for you and then post them to you
or if you want me to e-mail you the part numbers tomorrow I can do that too
They also still do some GKN ones.

that's good news.  What prices are you paying if you don't mind me asking?  Not sure posting them would work out any use as I presume I could get my local ECP to get some in, although if you are getting some kind of discount then it might be worthwhile :)  I'd be interested in a full set of 2 outers and 2 inners at least, possibly 3 outers since I owe Yoof one!

trust me I was doing cartwheels! I got none left at home and both my cars eat them.
they are approx £11 each which is not bad seeing it is a full kit each time. according to my chap they are not sided, that is the only thing I am not sure about, do you?
i will e-mail you the part numbers tomorrow, they don't come up on their website by the way which is why you might not be able to see them, don't ask me why  ???
if your local store cannot get them let me know and I will pick some up for you

Hmm £11 sounds too cheap to be the right parts, even the ebay CV joints are more than that.

You are right in them not being sided though.  Neither CV joints or boots are sided, just inners and outers are different.

Nope definately roughly £11 for the kit plus VAT.
I have a rummage about and they are the same ones I purchased before.
I have never had any problems with them.
Will e-mail part numbers tomorrow.

Perhaps they're cheap because they're being discontinued?

It's possible, I know GSF sell the remaining stock off dead cheap when something goes obsolete. I got a set of polo piston rings for £8, although they seem to have unobsoleted them since!
