Anyone know if 195/45/14s will cause any problems on standard ride height, standard suspension? I may lower it in future but it'd be about 40mm max (so the lip of the tyre sits level with the lip of the arch- I like seeing the whole tyre).

I'm going to order some next week @ £50 a corner, so could do with knowing about any scrubbing issues etc. if there are then I'll have to revert to 185/50/14s at £90 a corner :(

Ta 8)

195/45/14 are a bit small. Shop about for 185/50/14 and you can get decent brands for less than £70 each.

I'm running 195/45/14's no problems, but would probably go for 185/50s when changing. A bit less hard the arse and easier on the arms. Camskill are doing Yokos and Contis for £70.

I think I'm gonna go for the 195/45/14 Uniroyal Rainsport 2's. I remember the old rainsports being the best tyres on my first G (185/50/14) and regretted not getting the wider profile, There isn't much in the tyre wall height and the RR is pretty much bang on (I noticed my speedo is about 5% under @100mph the other day so have a bit of give anyway).

I've had a look at a few sites and used google shopping and camskill come up cheapest for them @£45.70 delivered each. I do like Yoko's but they don't work when the road's wet and I went through a pair of Toyos in 2k and don't rate them either. I remember the Falkens being my 2nd choice after the rainsports but can't remember which models of each tyre I'm talking about. Shame the PSD forum isn't going anymore I had loads of info on there :(

Really? How was you driving? Mine have lasted for about 5k with loads of tread left.

Were they T1-r?

I think they were, although I'm not 100% (I only say that as the name sounds familiar), it was whatever everyone was raving about in ~2004/5 I drove that car flat out through 10 miles of lanes to work and then the same back, never really drove it sedately or even "normally". it was literally 6k in every gear (once warm) so I suppose you could class it as track day style driving!

they might have been the old t1-s as 2004-05 was around the time the t1-r was being phased in, but both were available.

i liked my t1-Rs on my old tdi, had the same kind of tourque as the g40, and i literally couldn't wheel spin em in any condition because of the grip.

I just put it down to the car being too light for them, found the same with my supermoto, got a tyre lots of people recommended and it was poo for me due to the bike being too light therefore the tyre wasn't warming up/ gripping. I'm sure I could spin up the wheels with the toyos so it perhaps was the S instead of the R. I may even have the email receipt for it somewhere, I'm gonna find that out- if that is the case then I may try the R's at some point down the line.

Ive had this size on for the past few years, best size tbh for 14 x 6 . had uniroyals , falkens and yokos. Yokos were easily the best but i dunno wether i would pay £20 more per wheel. If your running this profile your best bet to avoid horrendous arch gap is to go 50-60mm lowering, ive only ever ran it like this other than standard and I think it sits nicely.

im sure camskill do falkens for £38 a corner at this size too

ye just had a look at camskill, not replaced tyres on mine yet, but toyo 195/45 would be more than £60 saving on the 185/50 yokos on my car now (all four corners).

quite a big difference when considering both have a pretty good rep, food for thought when mine run out of tread.

Finally got round to ordering them a few mins ago! Should be here for the weekend hopefully. Woop woop! :D

Went for the 195-45-14 rainsport 2s from Camskill. Tenner postage on top totalling £193 for 4 delivered, so not too bad that, just gotta get my new wheels powdercoated by my mate this week then I can fit them at the weekend! :D
