Cv boots

Bought some brand new vag outer boots to go on my cv's but the one for the larger drive shaft is plastic the one I took of was universal but was rubber should I stick the rubber one back on as I thought plastic cv boots are a bit cheap and crappy arnt they more likley to split as they are less flexible and go brittle over time.
