Polo/Mk2 Golf/Corrado handle/lock differences
« on: February 16, 2011, 05:38:19 pm »
I've finally got around to checking this out!

Stu Denson told me years ago about these anti slimjim plates you can get for a Corrado. Not those ugly things that go on the outside of the door, these are OE and go behind the door handle so they're invisible.

It's part number 1B on this diagram:
http://www.autospares.lv/_catalog-images/audivw_2007/vw/084/084128000.png

Part numbers:
191 837 273 - rip plate - left
191 837 274 - rip plate - right

My first question is, do you reckon these would fit a Polo? As in, are Corrado/Mk2 Golf door mechanisms the same as a Polo?

Second question is, has anyone fitted them?

Third question, are they any use? They look like they protect from sticking a screwdriver in through the door, but I can't tell whether they'll stop someone slipping a hanger between the window and door seal.

I didn't realise until I took the car apart just how easy it would be to break in. :(

corrado doors are more like a mk3 golf/mk4 polo pull handles so not sure they'd fit.  I could be wrong mind.

Mk2 Golf ones are the same as polos. I know because I regularly swapped them round when I used to go through cars like hot dinners ;D

In case you want to fit delocked handles, just buy mk2 golf rear handles. Keep a lock on the car though (ie boot) in case your battery dies/ central locking fails.

Unfortunately you can overcome it all with a piece of plastic banding from a newspaper bundle, screwdriver, rag and about 30 secs. This would be a considerate thief not wanting to damage seals/ paint etc though. only way to stop this is to deadlock it. but this function doesn't exist for old locks :(

Perhaps someone clever on here could design a system? if there's even a need that is..... Ultimately a spark plug will always pass through glass making this entire post pointless  :(
