A couple of Mk3 bits needed (seals and sunroof bits)

Howdy all,

I have a couple of bits on my car that are FUBAR so need replacing.

The first is the sunroof spoiler. The bit that pops up at the front when you wind the sunroof back. Mine's so rotten it's now beyond saving. I don't mind rubbing the replacement down if it's bubbled a bit, but it needs to be solid enough to prep and paint again. If I rub mine down there won't be much left!

I also need a windscreen seal - I'm pricing up new ones on Monday but I reckon VAG prices will be horrendous. My only requirement really is that it's not torn, perished, covered in moss or filled with the same silicone shit mine was. What do you have, and where are you based? Postage could be a killer...

Lastly, the rubber seals along the bottom of my door windows are a bit bent where I've not been careful removing them. I'm going to have a go at tapping them into shape with a hammer, but if not does anyone have a set that aren't wavy and bent?

I'm based in Kettering, north of Northampton, and don't mind coming to pick them up if they're local.

those rubber seals always bend whatever! i'd price up new if it were me

Alex

I had a feeling that would be the case. Nay worries, I'll price up some new ones at VW tomorrow.

Im sure ive got the sunroof spoiler you need. Will need rubbing down but its solid.

The window strips aren't too much from VW.
Just bought all new for mine.

Much easier than unbending them.

If they are too much tho I may dig my old ones out for you.

How much do you want for it? :)

I'm gonna do a quick trip to the parts department tomorrow morning for the rubber bits. :)

Can the sunroof still be closed shut without the spoiler thing?

If so you can have mine for postage Alex.

Alex

Yeah I would guess so. I guess you'd need to take the little arms out too though. (not a sneaky way of asking for them, I already have a mint set thanks to Steve M which will be going on when the car gets rebuilt)

But yeah that would be awesome Max! Don't you use your sunroof then?

Alex

Ordered the rivets from VW today to put the trim back on but the window seals are obsolete.

I'm going to do some fishing around in the local scrap yards but I'm not holding out much hope. I bet most of them don't see the value of removing a windscreen properly, so cut the seal out to preserve the glass. This could be interesting.

But tbh most scrap ones are better than the P.O.S I've had in mine.

Is it just the windscreen seal thats obsolete Alex or the up and down seals too? I need all of them for mine in a few years too. Will keep an eye out for good ones.

Alex

The ones I checked were the windscreen seal and the ones that go along the bottom of the moving windows.

I've picked up a windscreen seal, which seems to be up to the task. It's not mint, but it's cleaned up well.

I must have go tthe last ones then!

Shit that was close  :o

I'll have a look this weekend at my old stuff and if its any good get some pichers to you.

Alex

I managed to get a windscreen seal, it's a Saint-Gobain seal (so it's OEM) but doesn't have the ridged bit for the chrome trim. Doesn't really bother me, it won't be obvious when it's in and more importantly it won't leak.
