New lad
« on: September 05, 2008, 09:46:57 pm »
Hi im Terry, Djtez on the forums

im new to here but not to polos...

im know my bit about coupes. on my 6th one to date now..

but this is my first g40..
had it since jan.. and boy its fun.. it wasne't standard when i bought it so dont know wat there like just on the books..

My car just the other day encountered a problem (head gasket)
i knew all the sypthoms and proceeded yesterday to strip the head off..

i took out the cam first which had marking on the dizzy end (bp 27 ohy g40) and few other figures..
not all clear but i will try take a foto. is this a Standard cam?!!

i am very interested and concerned about the gasket replacment..
wat gasket should i buy.. i didn't think high compression was good for the g40?
im worried about skimmin the head? can i get a thicker gasket?
some one mentions on clubpolo about a metal gasket

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pour me some info to inhale :D

thank you all in advance... looking forward to enjoying this forum.. ill re-post the problem in engine ?

psd used to use the metal headgaskets from a mk4 polo - with normal head bolts (can get both from gsf) they as slightly thinner so higher compression with a bit more bhp cause of it. When you get the head skimmed they only take minute highspots off so it should be ok with that or a normal g40 headgasket

elring stuff from gsf is good shit as are the bolts. Bolts are £1 each at gsf and i think £3.50 or something at vag. So up to yours

The cam could be a Piper BP 270 one from your'e saying. BP270 HY (hydraulic?) G40?
I've never seen a standard O.E. G40 cam but I'd be suprised if VW would've put a "G40" specific marking on it.
Hope this helps.
Richard.

An original factory G40 cam will be stamped 030 with B underneath.
