Afternoon Guys & Girls;

I'm currently after a set of new spark plugs for the G40,

Now the standard plugs are W5DP0's which GSF can get in, on special order for £11.25 each.

BMS (British Motors Superstore) can get W5DP0's in, again special order, but can only do them in packs of 10!

Ideally I'm after W4DP0's as they run cooler. Bartek and RPM tuning suggest that G40's running over 135 BHP should run W4DP0's.

BMS have had them on back-order since March and GSF state its been discontinued.

So to anyone out there who still uses Bosch plugs, where do you get them from?

Does any run W4DP0's

And if no to both of the above, does anyone know the equiavelent NGK plugs for both W4's and W5's.

Price is not an issue, I'd rather pay decent money for the right plugs!

Any input is greatly apprieciated, as one of the nipples has snapped off my plugs, so its missing until the metals heated up and expanded! I have been offered some W4DTCs as a temporary mesaure, but I want to avoid using the wrong plugs for any even short space of time.

Much love,

Saf

cheers man, i had read that thread and had the number on my paper today when i was askin

ECP list W5DP0 & NHK B7ECS for the PY lump

GSF only list bosch W5DTC and W5DP0 for the PY lump and said both are special order which is fine (swinton lot)

BMS said when i rang, that W4DP0s have been on back-order since march, w5dp0s i can only get in packs of ten! and they stock no NGK equivalent!

adam dropped round some used W5DTCs tonight so im just about to clean em up a bit and check\set the gaps and see if i can find someone that sells W4s or find the NGK equiv.

what do run in your turbo paul?

hayesey

the NGK equivalents of w4dpo but I cant remember the part code!!

Andy

NGK list BP7EVX as their equivalent to both W5DP0 and W4DP0 in their catalogue.

cheers andy, after doing some googling and checking ngks online catalogue, i would agree!

best price i could find them was 21 quid delivered

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/4-NGK-PLATINUM-PLUGS-VW-POLO-MK-2-3-1-3-91-94-BP7EVX-/250412235891?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3a4dbb7c73

I bought my NGKs from that chap on eBay. Arrived very quickly. Can't knock the price either

Yoof

Just inspect the ones from eBay carefully, their packaging isn't the best, and spark plug ceramics are prone to damage once dropped, also you'll need to gap them prior to fitting.

I've run NGK for ages now, I find them to be a harder plug than the Bosch (and cheaper too), although I run a grade colder at BP8 EVX for the nitrous.

cheers yoof, i will do, im trying to find my feeler blades atm so i can set the gap on these sparkies here.

are there any advantages to running a colder plug for day to day use, when running 170 +

What's the recommended gap on these? I couldn't find any info so just left them as-was.

haynes states

8 The spark plug electrode gap is of
considerable importance as, if it is too large or
too small, the size of the spark and its
efficiency will be seriously impaired. The gap
should be set to the value recommended by
the spark plug manufacturer
