« on: December 06, 2010, 07:42:27 pm »
I have recently done some work to the G

Ported Charger R1
65mm Pulley
Boost return Mod As soon as i source a catch tank

I Obv want to get it remmapped but been talking to this guy and he said Chips are aload or rubbish, you neeed it remmapping,
I just wondering if anyone can fill me in how people are doing it, because ive been researching and seeing most of people have chips?

Thanks

Chips are generic, they are programmed for various stages of tune, and they are relatively cheap. But each individual engine won't be optimsed as the fuel and ignition maps allow for safe running to account for the variation between engines. A proper re-map will be tailored to your engine for best running, most power, and/or mpg.

I guess if you want the best out of your engine, you need to cough up for a mapping session.

That's a good description.

Remap = full custom tune for your exact car, done on your car. On a G40 this will mean writing the new data to a new chip and replacing the original one.

Chip = generic tune, usually done for a specific set of modifications or stage of tune.

The remap's the best option, but also the most expensive. A generic chip for a ported 'charger and smaller pulley will be better than running the standard chip, but a remap would be better still.

Interesting, Thanks, is there anyone recommended  for both chips and remapping?

Also are chips easily fitted yourself?

yes Andy/PPP would be my recommendation for either supply of generic off the shelf remaps (or "chips" if you want to call it that) or for custom-remaps.

IMHo, there is no need for more than a good chip for your setup. A full remap for your spec is a waste of money

Very true, i run a similar setup, with G60 injectors and i only use a chip. When a big valve head goes on or aquamist kits, bigger bottom end or something like them, thats really when you want a remap.

Yeah cheers guys I was thinking that chip would suffice for my little mods, when the big boys come out then i would look into a remap.

How will you remap a g40? Didn't think they had an obd port? When I had my polo gti mapped they plugged it in ?
