Drivers seat cable snapped
« on: November 18, 2010, 12:36:35 am »
The seat cable that makes the seat back tilt forwards has snapped on my car (mk2 with mk3 seats). I remember seeing instructions on here or Club Polo explaining how to fix it (many years ago), but I can't see them anymore. Can someone explain how to fix this? If you have the part number for the cable too, that would be sweet!

Thanks!

Typical! Just found the article! Just out of interest, is it an mot fail if the seats don't fold forward by the catch?

if you have seats in the back - technically yes I believe.  Its not too hard to replace.

Thanks! I was hoping I could get away without replacing them. I never take people in the back (rear wheels scrub), that's all. Probably more efford stripping the rear seats and seatbelts for each MOT really...

you can pikey it by using a cable tie to permanently hold up the lever on the inside side of the seat back ;)  It should get you through the MOT at least.

I wouldn't have thought it was an MOT fail as long as the passenger side was OK, but if you're not using the rear seats, why don't you just strip them out permenantly?

It looks tidier with them in - I want to keep my car looking as factory standard as possible.

@hayesey - I thought the seats had to be secure in place. TBH - it's probably easier for me just to fix it.  ;D

Yeah they do have to be secure, depends on how secure the tester thinks secure means though.
