HI Guys, Has anyone fitted a newman cam to there g40? are they any good? are they difficult to set up? In particular the fast road cam 264-268. I would like your opinions before i decide to part with my hard earned cash, Regards Big E,

that's not a cam profile that'll work too well with the g-lader.  something similar to what works ok in turbo polos.  newman cams are good for the money, they are cheaper than schrick etc... not quite as good finish but work fine.

mine didnt work fine, it was shite and it was a ball ache getting my money back of them aswell.

thats quite a claim, care to elaborate.

what was your setup? did you have a vernier to time up the cam appropriately.

I've got one in my turbo conversion, its ok.  I set it up with a vernier and dial gauge.  I do remember Liam having problems but cant remember what they were now, I'm sure he'll say here.

Shrick 252/276 is designed for the G lader and is a popular choice. I have one, but the car is in bits so I can't comment on it in use.

I have a newman PH2 cam (from psd), which i think is a 276?
Had it 3 years with no problems, can feel it working higher up the rpm, but i need to get a vernier pulley to get the best out of it i think?

polo classic

I have had my Newman since 2001, no problems, other than the engine is overcammed, but thats an error on my part ::)

yeah, no problem it was earlier this year so i cant remember in full detail, my car just wouldnt start at all and when i checked for compression their was none at all, i had the original cam put back in and it started fine straight away, then when i spoke to newman cams and told them my problem one of the members of staff was trying to pass the buck saying it wasnt their camshaft that was causing the problem, i finally managed to talk to a different member of staff a few days later and he was a lot more helpfull and gave me my money back for the cam and also gave me my postage fees back.

i now run a piper camshaft, it was about  £70 more but after having both of them in my hands you can see where the extra money has gone and would deffo reccomend one.

Hi Guys, Thank you all for your inputs on my questions regarding the merits of the 264-268 newman fast road cam.
I have decided to go ahead and buy one along with a new set of cam followers.I will let you know how it turns out with a fully blown super charger and chip and an induction system. Best regards Big E.
