The current S3 has one and I am almost certain the Edition 30 Golf has one.  The standard mkv golf puts out 200 odd bhp and the Edition 30's are down as 230bhp, but I think this is more a marketing thing, as the majority of owners are seeing higher rolling road figures on stock cars.  Also I think they were fitted to the old S3 and 225bhp TT's etc.
The Mk V and new S3 uses a completely different K03 and K04. Here the turbo is an integral part of the exhaust manifold.

The TT 225 is not very suitable in the Polo due to the shape of the outlet.

The K04 you want, is the K04-15 wich is good for 240 hp max

My mate Runar uses a K04-15 on his, as his K03 with a 3F cam had 1 bar boost @1800 rpm with large downpipe. @1 bar boost he had 180 hp on the rollers. Thats a PY with flowed head, 3F cam K04-15 and 63.5mm downpipe

Unfortunately the Garrett GT series turbos are a bit out of my price range. The smallest of the roller bearing ones is the GT25 and that's too big anyway. GT22 in the right trim could be used, but again its all more money.
I think I'll end up going with the tried and tested Rothe manifold and K03. As I said at the beginning, I'm gonna be a sheep and follow the herd!
Thing is, unless you're willing and able to put in the time/money to do all the research to make the right turbo choice for yourself, following the herd is the easiest route.

Not sure what's making you say the GT25(54) is too big - I think it might be quite well matched, if the roller bearing technology giving quicker spool-up is as good as it's cracked up to be. I'm trying to save up for a house at the moment, so doubt it'll be me that tries it first! A Garrett GT17 from a Saab 9-5 LPT might not be a bad choice either - good for 230bhp when pushed on a chipped 2.3l 16v 9-5 motor.

Rob makes a good point though - there's still lots of minor tweaking to be done with a K03 yet. E.g. Yoof's pushed it with nitrous, but still isn't making the most of it running Digifant. I've not put nitrous on mine yet (nor re-fitted my Aquamist) because I've still not finished tinkering with Emerald. That's ignoring all the messing about with camshafts, cylinder heads, inlet manifolds etc. that could be done.
The reason I think the GT25 54 is too big is from the information I got from the Garrett website. They state it's most suitable for engines between 1.4 and 2.2 litres in capacity and for making between 170 and 270bhp. If I was running a 1.8 250 bhp engine it might be ideal, but I'm not.

Proof is in the pudding, 21psi from a K03 and a properly nice torque curve. I'm considering trying another turbo (possibly GT series) depending on finances, although I still ask myself why...  :D

Not played with turbos much apart from VNT one on my tdi, I thought I shoudl add that with my old engine the crank  was lightened quite abit and was quite a free revving engine so I think it would be best having something that can flow alot of air to keep pressure at the top end. It was making 180bhp on 1-1.1bar on the full blend charger.
