When i engage the clutch i find it is very stiff and the biting point is very small.

Does anyone else have this problem?

I just got my other polo on the road and that clutch is so free to move where the g40 is the opposite.

Mines the same - think its a standard thing really. though my 1l Fox had such a light pedal.
Does anyone else get in another car now and just stomp on the clutch not realising how easy it is  ;D

Jezza-7

Yeah thats what i do all the time!

I had two new ones now and no difference. Do you recommend greasing new ones?

PeteG40

mine was stiff, i changed clutch and cable... and it was just the cable end to the footpedal... i greased it and now 10x better... worth trying for a 10 min job

Will give that a go then as my cable is fairly new.

Have you tried adjusting the freeplay on the new cable?

GR40

I bought a new cable when mine was gone and it was stiff to start with! Overtime friction in the cable became that much that it spliced the plastic pedal fitting in half! I do still have the cable and will post a picture of it! Greasing is the solution! I do mine with wd40 just cause its easier and I get bored :P

Well last night i think it came down to more than just greasing the cable as i broke down. The clutch cable just gave way but didnt snap and the pedal was on the floor. The clutch mechanism on the box itself was soo stiff to push with your hand that im sure its not supposed to be like that? I pulled the cable back into the cockpit, put the cable back on the mech housing and it just gave way. So the AA turned up to tow me home. He said what can happen is if it gets stiff like it is, something has to give and its either the cable giving astheres an ineer and outer or it has ripped through the bulk head and torn it. Im looking at clutch replacement now so will see what its like after that.

Anywhere inparticular i should get new clutch cable?

Has anyone ever used black diamond clutchs?

Where is best place to get helix ceramic/organic clutchs from?

If not i think this will be my next option as i seem to remember someone saying that they might be CG motorsports?

I've just changed the clutch on mine and was initially concerned that I couldn't easily operate the clutch by hand using the lever. I checked it on a known mk3 and it was the same. Once fitted into the car it works fine with the pedal. The clutch release lever on the gearbox was hard to press, but I found with a bit of body weight it could be done - pushing the lever towards the bulkhead.  Have you changed the clutch cable? It seems logical to try before getting a new clutch kit...

The clutch cable was only replaced in febuary and i have only covered around 6k. Surely it would last longer? Its due a clutch soon anyway as its loosing power from the transmission.

Took the cable out today and its broke a plastic tube on it. Gonna replace that for time being i think and then do clutch when i have got a few more pennies.

Should i go vw for the cable this time as my last was from gsf.
